Okay, my New Year's resolution is to stop modding my bike until spring but that doesn't mean I have to stop thinking about them right?
I'm happy with the bike and the ride, therefore, the shocks. However, I like the look of the enclosed shocks with the chrome covers over the springs. Can you buy covers for the stock shocks or do you have to replace the shocks? And, if you can buy them, are they difficult to install - the covers I mean...?
I just saw those covers today while searching for something else so I am sure they make them and I bet someone with more smarts then me will chime in otherwise I will backtrack and let you know. Mojo
You can buy the covered/enclosed shocks....they look identicalto the ones on the new 2008 Dyna Fat Bob (see my signature pic below). They are in the new 2008 Harley-Davidson Accessories and Parts Catalog in the Dyna section (page 209...Brakes and Suspension). Its item # 54619-08. It fits '07-later Dyna models. The listed cost is $399.95

I hope that helps!
Thanks, but doesn't help my wallet. I'm aware I can buy replacement shocks that look like that. Was hoping someone sells covers that can be put on the stock shocks to give the same or similar look.

I'm not sure about covers.......or at least I haven't run across any in my browsing through aftermarket accessories. If I happen to see any.....I'lllet ya know.

You can buy FL covers. You have to press the retainers out than manufacture the cover to fit. I will try and post the home made tool if you PM me and are interested.
Here is a Showa shock I put the covers on for an example. I had to cut and "Bell" the ends of the shock. Took it to a muffler place & they flanged it for me. You need to do this so the bottom does not get caught. Look in any of the suppliers such as Midwest etc. You will be out around $100.
In the end, you will still have shocks that are crap the same as if you bought 440 progressive shocks except you will be out more money. Here is a photo. By the way, you can look around and buy these Showas off of a Sporty Sport. They are way better than the progressives and you can find them on e-Bay rather cheaply. They are rebuildable, adjustable both compression and rebound, and are gas charged not emulsified. They are better than the other stuff by HD. You will have to re-Spring for your Dyna but it should be a direct bolt up. I do not know if you have any interest in making your bike actually ride better so you can take the information I have given you and do what ever you wish. Do yourself a favor and just buy a great shock in the beginning and you will be better off in a long run. The bike will actually handle & ride better
Okay, maybe ignorance is bliss but, crap or not, I'm fine with my stock shocks and the ride I get. Perhaps it's because I haven't tried the great and wonderful Progressives everyone talks about and don't know the difference.
I don't want to manufacture anything or force something to work. I'm simply curious if there is an out of the box cover to fit the stock shocks...
