I Remember Carrying one of those Kit's that came in a little tin can... Getting the top off the can, sometimes was harder then getting the tube patched.. The Scuffer was built into the topof the can... Man 40 years ago
The glue smelled good, too!!Used similar tools to patch car and truck tubes, back in the day.

Remember, you could cut the patches to any size you wanted.

One, I'm a pack rat and have major problems with throwing perfectly usable items away.
So.....

You get a new tube and keep the safety ***** happy. Then take the old tube, find a chunk of tree branch and make ya a cool toy for harassing squirrels! Now, THAT brings back memories

I remember as a kid my dad working all day to get the car tire off of the rim. He had a single leaf from a leaf spring that he ground down to the right thickness and used a sludge hammer on it to break the bead. All that to save $2 at that time. Things are sure different now.

Do all Harleys have tubes. Or just the ones with spoked wheels?

Do what makes ya comfy, personally, I think safety is for *****’s.
Seriously though, if you know how to patch a tube right, I say go for it, I have put MANY miles on tubes I ran till I had 10 or more patches, and I don’t mean bicycle.
I’m older an maybe a little smarter now, I would replace it when I got the chance, but it sure wouldn’t keep me from riding one day for a itty bitty hole.

Do you remember the old galvanizer patches that you lit up with a match and it kinda melted the patch onto the tube? They had the patch on a tin cup that had some kind of fast burning material inside that you lit. I used to use them a lot and never had one fail. That was a long time ago, I don't know if they still make them anymore.

I had the exact same kit for my peddle bike. Man that brings back memories. Get a new tube " safety ****". Its just not worth it.

I had one of those repair kits in the early 70's ... I'd had a couple of nasty leaks on the way to school ... 'course I was in shorts and peddling in those days I had a chopper seat, sissy bar and apes even then !
I'll bet you had cards in the spokes too ... I had some 180 degrees apart so it sounded like a v twin as i rode along !

Psycho ... if you can change a tyre on your own then i'd fit a patch ... it'll be stronger there than any other point on the tube ... worst case ... if it does go then you won't blow out either as the tyre will hold it together so you'll get a slow deflation

I posted this somewhere else, but it bears posting again.

My '05 was about two months old when a friend of mine noticed this. And I had just come off the freeway running my normal 75-80 mph. It was still holding air, so I rode it, at 10 mph, about 12 miles,to a H-D shop for a $254.00 repair.

Yes, that's a 16 penny nail, in the tread and out the sidewall and never punctured the tube, but I had the tube replaced anyway. As was said above, tubes are cheap.

Psycho - Good to hear you are back in the saddle.

Here's a tire patch supplier with a Made in USA label. Got it from the Made In USA website.
