Default Oh well

Finally a day nice enough to ride and I didn't have to work, but ended up hurrying home with multiple stops for air on account of a leak in the tire. Such is life.

Had it tore down about 20 minutes after I hit the garage and found a small sheet metal screw had gone through the nearly new tire and scratched an itty bitty hole in the tube.

Hmmm. Wonder if it's still kosher to patch a tube, or have the safety ***** deemed that "intolerable" as well?

Psych, that's some tough luck.

I usta carry one of those little hot vulcanizing patch kits
back in the 60s 70s.

Remember the kit?? T handle clamp
scratch it up and strike a kitchen match
to light off the powder.
Fused the patch to the rubber.

Fixed em on the side of the road.

If you can get a tube before the weather turns, I'd go that route.

A good patch is OK.

I had one of those repair kits in the early 70's ... I'd had a couple of nasty leaks on the way to school ... 'course I was in shorts and peddling in those days I had a chopper seat, sissy bar and apes even then !

I had the exact same kit for my peddle bike. Man that brings back memories. Get a new tube " safety ****". Its just not worth it.

I Remember Carrying one of those Kit's that came in a little tin can... Getting the top off the can, sometimes was harder then getting the tube patched.. The Scuffer was built into the topof the can... Man 40 years ago

Yeah I remember the old kits in the can with the scuffer in the lid, and like you said, getting the can apart was at times harder than patching the tube.

Several reasons for patching rather than replacing. One, I'm a pack rat and have major problems with throwing perfectly usable items away. Grandad would think I was foolish for tossing instead of repairing. Two, 60 miles to the closest dealer, and none of the indies will be open till wed, and then probably have to order one to get that size, and three, I just like doing things myself.

My only hesitation would be the patch kit itself. I'm wondering if I'll even be able to find a good quality patch kit now, or if it will all be a bunch of made in china crap that won't bond worth a damn.

In reality, you are far more likely to run over another screw in the road, than to have a properly affixed patch come loose.

Trotter, I really appreciate that, but really, I'm not that worried about it. I'm gonna go by tractor supply and pick up a patch kit after a while here, and if I don't locate a kit that is the quality I'm looking for, I'll just ease on down to the dealer in chatt and get a tube. By the time I get to Tractor supply, I'm halfway to the dealer anyway.

Like I said though, I greatly appreciate your willingness to help out.
