I HAVE PURCHASED A SET OF BIKERS CHOICE FORWARD CONTROLS FOR MY 07 STREET BOB. I HAVE INSTALLED THEM, THEY LOOK AND FIT GREAT, BUT MY QUESTION IS: WHAT TO DO ABOUT THE FORWARD SHIFT ARM? I DONT WANT TO PULL THE INNER AND OUTER PRIMARY TO REMOVE THE SHAFT, ANY SUGGESTIONS?
dont know what to hepl u here. i had mine done when i got it the stealer did it. they said you had to take of the primary to do it so i guesss that is what u will have to do.but im guessing there are some guys on here who know how to get around it
Left mine in place and put the chrome spline cover that came with the Kuryakyn kit. I've put 4K on her since putting on the forwards and have yet to have a problem with it binding anything. There really isn't any place on my FXDC to tie wrap it to, probably similar situation you are having to deal with.
Did the samething that Shorerider did. Have had no problems. If you push the shaft in as hard as you can by hand and then put the cover on it will creat pressure on the shaft and hold it where ever you put it. You can try that.
Got a forward control kit for xmas. Plan on doing what WS6 suggests when I finally get around to installing it. Originally, I was going to tackle the primary removal - thought it might be fun. But then I came to my senses and figured it just wasn't worth the hassle. I was hesitant to go the hacksaw routeuntil I took a close look at the area in questionand saw how much room was back there to play around with and what the job would entail. I literally chuckled out loud when I realized how easy it was going to be.
Anyways, I figure if I ever need to go back to mid-controls for whatever reason, I'm sure I could pick up a spare, unmolested mid-shift shaft from someone on this forum who went the 'official' primary removal route (or God forbid, I could pick up a new one from the dealer).
i instal the one form hd i left the shaft in place to see how i like the feeling afther couple ride and the rear disc break on fire i decide to go back on mid
something wrong happen on break pedal still not sure what happen but it wont go back at the good place
but if you like it and want to removed the shaft just take a skillsaw and take all the caution that riquire to opperate that tool and try to put tape near the engine and primary case toprevent scratch it and youll be fine
but not sure if you have to removed the front case if you have to remember thers oil inside the case
so try to pull it afther cuting and if no moving just removed the case and pull out the shaft from the inside and afther re instal the bolt ( 22 or something maybe more) and retorq to specific value
its suposse to be an e z job
