Default 07 gearing

Hey I just had a thought....I am pretty sure that at on the Dynas when they went to the 96" motor for 07, they also upped the gearing somewhat. For some reason they felt that it would work best with the extra torque. I notice on mine much taller gearing than I need. Dont realy need 6th gear till over 90mph. So has anyone here tried switching an 07 final drive to that of an 06? It should result in a huge boost in acceleration grunt, and would show up on a dino as more power too. It just may be a cheap easy way to get alot more power with only the sacrifice of top endwhere we cant even use it anyway like 120+.....I dont think any of us hold sustained speedsup in that range, and cruising at 90 to 100 or so would still be mucheasier than a five speed.Don't know if they did it in the primary or on the belt drive. I would bet it was a safety move to help keep the front wheel on the ground in first gear. I think I will look into it....I guess I would have to change the speedo sender too.

Evolutions Industries makes a 30th hard drive sprocketin replace of the 34th compensator. There is a lot of information on this simple converstion under the Primary/Drive/Tran forum. I have it and really hops up your bike, makes 6th gear usable.

at 90 miles an hour is when you get into 6th gear, wow. I feel like once I hit 65-70 it's time to shift.

Pepe.........you must be a mind reader.
For a few months now I've been thinking of just how useless really that 6th gear is.....
I really don't have a lot of miles on my Bob since I have two bikes and my old lady really wanted to ride a lot this year....
I remember back in 1971 when I changed the rear sprocket on my Triumph to more teeth....
The out of the hole speed was great and the wheel stands WOW!!!!
But I'm not interested in the wheel stand part of it anymore at my age.......
Thinking maybe the 6th gear would be more useful with a bigger rear sprocket....
Any thoughts from the people that tried something similar ????
I think changing the rear sprocket if that is possible would be the easy way to go....

I need to be going over 60 mph to use 6th on my 07 SB.
My nephew has a 07 Softail Custom that runs
fine in 6th going 50 mph.

I change between 55 & 06. Don't really chug but it's is pulling a little slow. I just changed to syn 3 oils today. On the ride home 55 felt pretty smooth in 6th gear

It seems that typically people change the engine sprocket in the primary to change the ratio,I would think changing the sprocket on the rear wheel would be alot easier, butmaybe dynas already use the bigger wheel sprocket,I know that at least on the old evo bikesthe Heritage used a smaller one to get higher gears. I was going to go over to the dealer today and get some of the specs, but I forgot. I know I can get a 30 tooth front primary from evolution, but it doesnt have the shock absorbing whatever that the factory uses. But I think ordering a factory sprocket and speedo sender for an 06 should do it. Haven't opened up one of those cases before, couldnt be that complicated.....hope I don't screw something up in there.
