Default F'n dealer ,

I had the Bike to the dealer about a month agofor the battery tender bolt re-call. They adjusted the clutch, without asking, and then gave me a bill for $48. I told them I was there just for the re-call and didnt think I should pay for a service that I didnt ask for, or need. They apologized, and said the adjustment is covered under warrenty. The clutch worked good, lever play was good before they worked on it. They adjusted the lever tight, It didnt feel right to me. The bike kinda felt funny at high speeds when accelerating to pass. Didnt really bother me too much, I thought it felt that way because of my new clutch adjustment. I havent really rode the bike that much because of the cold weather. Today was 70 degrees. Went for about a 50 mile ride, by the time I got home the clutch was slipping. Tried adjusting the cable, first gave slack, and rode around the block, no better, than tightend it up a bit. Still slipping. Could the clutch just be worn out? Or could it be the dealer messed it up when they worked on it? The Bike is an '06 Street Bob with only 4000 miles , never beat on it. I am the original owner. I called another dealer, and they said they would look at it for me. If I need a new clutch, anyone know what this would cost for the dealer to do it?

Thanks for any advice.......

YOU SHOULD TAKE IT BACK TO EM AND GIVE EM HELL FOR MESSING WITH SOMETHING THEY SHOULDNT HAVE. THEY SHOULD HAVE ASKED FOR PERMISSION FIRST.

1.) How many miles are on the bike?

2.) The center clutch adjustment bolt is probably too tight. If that gets backed off, and the cable readjusted, it'll probably be fine.

3.) Did the dealer pop the primary/derby cover and adjust the clutch basket, or just the freeplay in the cable adjuster?

4.) If the adjustment was under "warranty" then a premature worn clutch should be covered as well, but expect a fight.....

Doing any work without authorization is free, as far as I'm concerned. If I didn't ask for it, don't assume I want want it, or try to bill me for it later.

$48 to adjust a clutch........... You should have called the police, because there was an obvious ROBBERY going on in that service department.

bluedog they just wanna see you again so you can part with sum moldy bills lol.Seriously tho Id take it back and let em know they ****ered it up and you want it back without it slipping. When you adjusted the clutch did you do it at just the cable or did you back the clutch locknut off?you might wanna check and see if the nut has backed off screwing with your adjustments. The clutch should not be worn out at only 4k

Man, for $48 the dealer had to have taken the durby off, good thing you didnt pay for it. It sounds to me like the dealer needs to start using some KY and not stick its customers dry. you need to bring it back to them and have them pull there service records.

I wouldn't take it somewhere else unless they are going to do the work under warranty as well. I'd take it back to who did it and make them get it right and do it for free.

I have 10,000 miles on my 07 Super Glide
My neighbour has 45,000 miles on his 02 Softail Standard - we both ride pretty hard and Iam 270lbs. No Slipping.
A buddy of ours has 90,000 miles on his 95 Heritage Softail Classic.

None of us have had clutch issues, so I think your dealer needs a tune up for both the adjustment price and for potentially messing up your clutch.

Yup - Lumpy is right on the money here
you need to adjust the tranny end first

loosen up the cable adjustment until the lever is loose and flopping around
adjust the center bolt (behind the cover). adjust as specificed in the service manual
readjust the cable as specified.

should be fine

It is very easy to take the clutch inspection cover off and adjust the clutch. Why take it back to the clowns that screwed it up?
