last summer i had the dealer instal my new buckhorns because i needed a longer brake line. i asked them to add 4 inches to whatever they needed because i was going to put on 4 inch pullback risers. they added about a foot . my question. can it be shortned or do i get a new line.
I'd check a new line and the cost of redoing the current line, may not be much difference. You'll have to reattach the banjo fitting to the shortened line also, but check both costs, you may find one is cheaper than the other.
Buy a universal Goodridge braided line in the exact length you want for about $25 and a couple banjo fittings for about $10 each. I wouldn't monkey around trying to modify a stock line.

Thats a good price. My Black Goodridge braided line was $44, and the fittings were $18 and $17 for a total of $79. But that was through J&P Cycles.
You can do a lot better than J&P if you look around. Below is from Zanotti's using Drag part numbers for a 40" Goodridge Ebony line and 2 banjo fittings. Discountcycleparts.com has similar pricing.

already got the black braided lin on it so i should be able to have it shortned with just a new fitting. dont really want yo try it myself because i need to trust my brakes. thanks for the info.
Bikerdog, what kind of braided line do you have? Does it have screw on AN3 fittings or is it a premade line with fittings that can't be removed? If it has AN3 fittings, you just buy a new line of the correct length and screw on your existing fittings. If it's a premade line, you're going to be better off buying a new universal line and new fittings and be done with it rather than trying to find someone who will modify your existing one.
i dont really know. the dealer put it on. i have an indy not too far from me so when the weather breaks ill have him take a look and see. thanke for your reply
