I noticed that more than of few guys have a side mount plate w/tail light and are getting rid of the stock brake light. I talked to a guy at a local shop and he said he would fill the holes, and paint for $400. 99% of that price is in the paint and I am not a painter to say the least. Is that a fair deal?
If someone is going to fill the 3 small holes and the one big brake light hole, then repaint the fender, then yeah $400 isnt that bad of a deal. Its about the same deal Ive been quoted around here (Houston). Im going to do the same mod soon as I get some free cash.
Depends on how he fills the holes.... If he's gonna braise them up or weld them up and paint thewhole fender to factory specs..then yea it's a good deal... If he's just gonna mud them up and paint it then I'd say no you'll be doing it again soon...
There are also a many different types and styles of emblems that are ment to be attractive that will cover these three holes as well. a lot less then $400
I manage a body shop here in oregon and are labor rates are at 48 per hour and 26 per hour for material.... 400.00 would be a fair price in my area and I'd weld the holes up for that much.
weld it up....little hammering a little putty prime and paint..........400 to 600 hundred sounds good.....but a body shop isnt going to take there time there weld grind , fill prime and paint .....take it to a custom place i did my own it took me 5 hours to do the metal work and filler work.....but i wanted it really nice
There is a custom bike builder here in town that will weld it up and then another custom rod/bike painter that will do the paint. I've seen there work and believe they would do it right. I don't think I could do a good enough job to satisfy myself! Sounds like $400 is probably a fair enough price for the time they will have in it.
