I built my own brackets and performed a tank lift on my street bob as well as others on the site here and have noticed now my fuel guage goes well into the red and the light comes on sooner and I can stop and fill up and it only takes about 3.8 gal to fill which means I still have another gal to go in the tank. I only raised mine 2" and was wondering has anyone removed the guage sender and reangled to read the level correct or is everyone doing the same thing I am doing and refilling a little early. Looking at the tank from the side I really don't know how much fuel gets trapped on the right side when it gets lower unless there is a crossover in the rear as well. Anybody know???
Even without a tank lift I still have close to a gal left in mine when it looks like I'm going to be SOL looking at the guage! Maybe it's me but I try to fill up when it even touches the red on the guage.
My tank lift actually made my gauge more accurate. It never showed full before even when I filled it to the rim. And the light would always come on when I had 2 gal. or more left in the 5.1 gal tank. Now, the gauge shows all the way full when I fill it up and the light doesn't come on until there is about 1.5 gal left.
well I ride a softail ,carbed witha 3 inch lift and I just use the speedo and go about 175 and fill up have also ran out of gas as the reserve is very limited with the lift , oh well!!!!!!
Well it's sounds like the accuracy of the guage isn't all that it should be. Before the lift I would ride about 140 miles before the light would come on and it wasalmost half way in the redbut slightly to the fuller side. I have gone approx 200 on a tank and when I filled itit still had almost a gal in it then from what it took to top off the tank. I was wondering hasanyone removed the guage and tried to reangle the float to read a little more accurately. I would think that the light shouldn't come on till a little under a gallon. My light is coming on now when I know I still have at leastalmost 2 gallons left. I guess I need to just break out the manual and get to reading to see how hard it is to get the guageout so I can reangle it.
Hey Grump, you crack me up. For someone who despises the dyna line, you sure do spend a lot of time over here... Come on now, just admit it. You'd actually like to come over to the shock side...
