Default RE: Wide Glide Conversion?

That Ebay front end will not work for your year bike. Vulcan Engineering is a crap shoot It may work, it may not as in quality & fitment is iffy. I researched a lot of different options when I converted from the narrow glide to a wide glide on my '02 Lowrider.

First off, the wide glide & lowrider frames are identical part #'s at least for the '02s. I don't think any frame changes were made until '06 or '07, get a parts book & verify for yourself or call a dealership & ask the parts guys to look it up. There is no documented or verifiable info that there is any rake built into the trees on mine or your year bike, or any year bike that I've been able to find, only hearsay.

If you want to be able to use your fork lock get stock H-D trees, no one else except for Vulcan Eng. makes trees that will work with your fork lock. That was an imperative for me.

And no, you can't slide the forks up higher in the trees guys, not if it is a stock H-D WG triple tree set-up. Don't know where you're getting that from.

I looked for decent deals on various website & Ebay to put a stock H-D WG front end together. Total was around $660 which also included a 21" WG front wheel. Not included is the steering head bearings & a $110 race removal tool I bought, I made my own race installation tool. You can probably borrow these tools though, maybe from me if something can be worked out to ensure I get them back. Also bought a new WG front fender off Ebay for $35. I made spacers for the stock FXDL fender, but it sat too high & didn't look right.

Yes the forks are, I believe, 2" longer, but is no different than those who lower their rear end while leaving the front alone. Bike leans farther over on the kick stand, no big deal though. It's not going to fall over. The bike handles just fine. I tend to ride like a maniac & put to rest peoples ideas about apehangers & WG front ends not handling well. It's all about how YOU handle your bike.

The WG front end & 16" apes are the best mods I've done, well, except for the rippin' 95" engine build.

If you have any other questions, let me know. I've actually done this & have pics of the project in progress.

I would recommend staying with stock H-D WG parts, you know what you're getting & they will fit right. I talked to the guys at Vulcan & having been a machinist for 20 years, was not impressed with their respnses to technical questions, that & having talked to others who've unsuccefully tried their stuff I wrote them off.

It may take a while to find the parts you want. If you check out all the various Harley forums & Ebay you will find what you need. It took me a couple of months, I think.

Not trying to high Jack - just a question.. I read your above comments about the vulcan conversion kits. I have a 2001 Dyna fxd and I just bought the Vulcan conversion kit cause it seamed like a simple take your old parts off and put the new ones on project. It includes instructions. I cant see there being much too it... Remove your old parts and put the new ones on and re torque everything. What problems do you expect I will have? I just ordered the kit and it hasn't arrived yet... This is my winter project.....

Your Dyna, is that the stock wheel? If so what size tire is that you fit on there.... I'm doing a conversion along with changing my front fender to a switch back style and wanted to put a bigger tire on. Curious whats the biggest tire I could put on there...
