I agree with your statement about no drain plugs on the 49mm forks. I had that same question when I first purchased mine and wanted to change the fork oil out to something a little bit heavier.
However, I've not taking that plunge. I was waiting for one of the other wrenches that like doing mods to do a post on their endeavor. I do have plans to change out the fork cartiridges later and when I remove the forks for that, I will drill and tap for drain plugs.
Oh hell with this then lol. I have to change my fork fluid (as well as the others) and I had been wondering about a drain plug. I will definitely be conjuring up something for this...no drain plug...wtf were they thinking?
i slammed some 1" under stock progressive springs in my fat bob and realized the same thing but wasn't up for taking the forks somewhere to get them drilled&tapped, maybe i should snag a drill press for the garage.
What we do issupport the bike so its upright andpull front axle, once the axle is removed look at the very end of the fork slider there is a 1/2 inch hole and there is a metric allen bolt in therepull this bolt out and your fluid will follow. its best to do one fork at a time. It is recomended to replace this copper washer on this bolt. Refill with the recomended amount of oil.
