Default Sanity check

I went in to check on prices to replace my rear tire (just over 5K and no tread), nothing suprising about that. Anyway, I want to switch over to Metzeler and this guy is trying to tell me that even though my front tire has plenty of tread left that I need to change both otherwise they won't "track" the same.

So, I'm asking those with experience to chime in; is my guy full of **** or what?

I plan on switching the front over eventually but I can't rationalize why I need to do both at the same time.

Thanks for the help!

Edit:
Oh, and is there a particular series I should get for my 2007 FXDWG?

You don't have to do the front. But when you do I would get the same brand. Some tires will track differently.

He's full of ****.I use matching sets of tires for purely cosmetic reasons but in a pinch I'll run two different brands it'll work fine.

I don't understand how some people are only getting 5000-6000 miles on their rear tire. I ride 2 up all the time on my streetbob and I just recently lost site of the center tread groove at 10,000 miles. I never burn rubber or spin the tire except for maybe a few accidental brake skids. I take off plenty fast enuff and ride her pretty hard too throughout the gear ranges. I downshift to help slow down to save on my brake wear as well. I wonder if it has something to do with the differences in concrete between states. Just a little odd hearing everyone chime in aboutexcess tire wear. I rode a Vstar custom 1100 for 2 years prior to buying the Bob and I got12,000 miles worthof ride time out of the originalBridgestone 180 rear tire and then I put aMetzler 180 on it and got 14,000 from it. I traded it off at 26,000 miles and it still had a couple 100to go. LOL!

Does Dunlop make the Elite 3 in the correct size? I hear this tire is supposed to be awesome for mileage as well as stickiness. My coworker won't running anything else on his VTX1800. And you know how they tend to chew up tires.
