I have a little experience with this. I had to haul my street bob from Maryland to texas. I used a small u-haul trailer and was forced to use the inside "tie downs." The tie downs are garbage, I was checking on the bike every gas stop. Two of the tie downs eventually ripped out of the wall. I did make a wheel chock and used that for balance on the front wheel. Luckily the bike never fell over, I took it easy on turns. I don't recommend this method, but if you're in a pinch, it's possible.

Size of the trailer? Well the street bob barely fit (straight in) in a 5x8 trailer. I don't think a low rider would have a problem, but Im not 100%

Hope someone here can help. I just bought a 2003 low rider and need to get it home. Living in central ny does not allow me to ride it home with snow and salt on the roads. I checked into U-Haul and they have a 5' x 8' enclosed trailer available. They claim those dimensions are inside dimensions, based on those dimensions I should have 3" to spare. I plan to go and verify the inside dimension tomorrow. Has anyone here used one of these enclosed trailers for their dyna? Is the 93" long dimension that Harley has in the specs the full length including the tail light? Any info you have will help. Thanks!
You don't say how far you are going, if it's not too far contact the local HD dealer and ask them how much they would charge you to haul your bike? Couldn't be much more than renting a U-haul and much safer I would think.

My $0.02.

Mud - with an open trailer (which is what I was speaking too) a tarp isn't going to provide absolute coverage.

After my father's experience, my advice stands. If you are going to haul the bike on an open trailer through a New York winter, take the 30 seconds to remove the seat and place it inside the truck. Otherwise, be prepared to spend an eternity trying to get all that salt out of the saddle.

I have been told tha a tarp on an open trailer is the worst thing you can do. It will take the paint right off.

Well I stopped in at uhaul and checked out the trailers. I am going with a 6x12 trailer, costs only $30 for the day. They do have loop tie downs near the floor on each front corner and down the sides as well as the cheap looking wood rails running down the length of the trailer half way up. I am only going about 40 miles so I think I should be okay if I take it easy. The 12' length gives me plenty of room. Heading out this Saturday, will let everyone know how I made out. Thanks for everyones input!

I will be using an enclosed trailer, don't want to chance it with an open one. They are predicting some snow here for the next few days. Thanks!

Well guys I used the 6x12 enclosed trailer. It had loop tie downs (not the sturdiest I've seen) on the floor, and the 12 foot gave me plenty of room. Cost around $40 with insurance and tax. I did have to borrow a ramp from a friend of mine though. The bike made it home fine (40 miles), nothing loosened up, and it looks great sitting in my garage waiting for spring. Thanks to everyone who responded!
