Exhaust- what all does it involve?
.. I've been trying to figure out how to combined the twobusinesses so I can be at both places at the same time you may have the answer there...
I'm wanting to put a set of the V&H Big Radius's on my 07-bob. What all does that entail? Can I just buy them and bolt them on or do I HAVE to get it dyno'd?
Thanks in advance,
Scott
The first thing the dealer asked me when I bought my pipes was did I have a stage 1 A/C and a fuelpak. Yes, Trotter, they actually said fuelpak without even mentioning a Power Commander - LOL. I already had both but I suspect they would have tried to convince me I needed them if I hadn't already had them. To get the most out of your pipes, you'll probably want a stage 1 a/c if you don't already have one. And, to accomodate both, a tuner or fuel manager would be the best option vs. having the dealer give you a stage 1 download. Even the programmable tuners can be set to default "maps" for your setup without doing a dyno tune. But, again, getting the dyno tune is the optimal method.
Oh, and yes you can install all of it yourself. I did my own A/C and fuelpak install and could have done the pipes. But, I opted to have the dealer install the pipes so I wouldn't have to deal with the O2 sensors and possibly break them. FYI, if you have someone else install your pipes, be sure to ask them to remove the stock front exhaust bracket. That requires a special tool because of the location of the bolts that hold it on and you can't get to it after the fact with the new pipes installed. Trust me, I tried it.
Like others have said and me also there is no need for a dyno tune you can get the bike running using the laptop and PCIII and fuelmoto will load a map in the PCIII before they ship it that will probably work with no problems. Only reason for a dyno would be if you build up the motor later on in life or your looking to pay $300 bucks to get 10hp or something iam not. Iam just looking to get the bike running little better and get the harley sound.
I went with big shot staggereds
new vance and hines fuel pack
big sucker air cleaner.
new exhaust gaskets.
This is an easy but a little time consuming install.
1.removed old exhaust (soakedboth o2 sensors in liquid wrench).
2. removed old air filter installed new one.
3. installed vance and hines fuel pack (watch the video on the web)
4.removed old exhaust gaskets in stalled new ones)
5 removed o2 sensors from old exhaust(after letting the soak for over an hr)
the spun off easy I put anticease on thread and installed them into new v&h exhaust
6.remove old mounting bracket installed new bracket then
installed the exhaust (a helping hand makes it easier to do this.)
7.plugged in o2 sensors then followed directions on programming fuel pack(very simple)
8.fired her up and WOW it sounded great.
I might have missed a step I did this last year
Just follow directions that come with everything and it was easy.
I went with fuelpak because ease of programming and I am only going to do stage 1 upgrade not more.
I understand if you are going to do more than stage 1 them the pc111 or other fuel computer
are better but a dyno might be needed.
I get no popping decel with fuelpak and the the plugs look great .
good luck.
Ok, well I got a brand new set of V&H Big Radius's for $499 flat! Now all I need is the FP and AC...
