Default Confusing

Question for you all. Is the Derby Cover and theClutch Inspection Cover one in the same? Mine is scratched to hell and I want to replace it but I'm not sure if they are the same thing. Also, if they are, according to the service manual, you need to drain the fluid before removing the cover. Has anybody here had a problem just leaving the bike fully upright (like having the Jiffy Stand supported on a block of wood)and not draining the fluid?

Thanks........

Yes, they are the same part. Since the primary oil is only supposed to be just below the opening with the bike on the jiffy stand, there should be no leakage when you take the cover off. Just be real careful about torx head screws when you go to remove them. The heads strip easily and then they can be a real bitch to get off. Take your time, be patient and make sure you use the proper size Torx bit, a #27 should be what you need.

Ditto to what Trotter has said, recently changed mine and did the block of wood thing to keep the bike upright, no fluid escaped, quick and easy, dont forget if you are changing to a different Derby cover other than original you might need a different gasket, mine needed the full coverage cork one as opposed to the o-ring style for the original Derby/ Clutch inspection cover.

yes and ditto to the words already mentioned before, one more piece of advice. i would have a set of replacement screws on hand before the project is started. that's in case the factory torque wrench was a little off the day yours was assembled. ride safe

No, not four wheeling, more like "no wheeling".This happened back in December.I was riding and well, let's just say that she doesn't like snowand she slid out from under me.I ended up bending the shift lever also. Thank God I had a windshield attached at the time which took most of the damage! I don't care about the shield, didn't plan on using it that much anyhow. The worst part was I ended up breaking my collar bone! Now that I'm pretty much healed up, I'm ready to start fixin her up and get for the spring. Thanks for the info Trotter!

Thanks, I'm cool now and chompin' at the bit for good weather. Been going to therapy for a month. I explained to the therapist that as long as I can hold my arms straight out to grab the handle bars I'd be happy!
