Denim Black Experiment
I had opened the tailgate of my SUV and it scratched across the front fender of my
Bob. Was deep but not into the metal. Would have been thru the clearcoat
had there been one on it.
So being that I am getting it painted I experimented with it by sanding it down with 600 grit
wet sand paper. The scratch came completely out and the DB paint seems to be on there fairly thick.
I sanded the complete fender and washed it off with hot water and dish liquid. The paint looks same
as back fender and the scratch is completely gone. No signs of sanding thru the paint even at the rivets.
I may hit it with some solvents etc. to see what might harm it before I get it painted. Might as well
experiment while I have the opportunity. Was thinking about waxing it to see how shiny it would look too
but not sure I want to before painting. I guess maybe some things may not effect it immediately either.
So I hope this might help some else if thay have a similar problem
Willie
Do NOT wax it if you have to paint it. You will open up a can of worms you do not want to be involved in by waxing it. Fisheye's will be your worst nightmare.

That is why I made this statement.
"Was thinking about waxing it to see how shiny it would look too but not sure I want to before painting"
I have worked in two body shops in my lifetime.
But really would not be a problem because I take it back down to bare metal before painting.
