I have an 06 superglide custom. I would like to change the wheels to 17" front and rear with black rims and hubs. My bike came with alloy wheels. Would the easiest way to do this be to find some stock spoke wheels and have some rims and the hubs powdercoated? Would i have so much $ wrapped up in doing this that i should just buy new wheels? I noticed that there arent many choices for the 1" axle. Thanks
Yes powder coating and lacing a new rim on your hub is the easyest/best way. I am in the process of the same thing. Find some rims (JPCycles is a good start), find the spokes you want, strip your current wheels, take the hubs and new rims in to a local powdercoater at the same time and try to get a bulk deal. Then learn to lace them, do it your self, then take them in to get tuned. My figure is under 500 this way for both rims. Good luck.
Dont currently have spoke wheels, that ismy main problem. I dont know enough about the different hub sizes and whatnot to find the right ones for my bike. In theory if i can find some stock spoke typehubs for an 06 it may not be too bad of a swap.
