Default Derby cover replacement??

Hey guys, I have an '08 Street Bob and have ordered a replacement derby cover to put on and was wondering what to expect when I pull off the OEM derby cover. Any fluids or parts going to pop out at me and screw everything up when I take the cover off?? Thanks...

Dave

No. You might want to put a 2x4 under the kickstand but even if you don't, a very small amount, if any, will come out of the primary. It is meant to be serviced on the kickstand.

Make sure you get a new gasket! You probably could get away without one and the worse that could happen is that you'd leak a bit until you replaced it.

you can expect screws out... new cover on... done... put 2x4 under kick stand... takes 5 min... be sure to put on lock tite and not to over tighten thehex heads or they will either strip the thread or the head of the screw

Cool. I did order a new gasket with the cover so I should be good there. Sounds easy enough to do. Red or blue loctite?? Or does it matter??

I would suggest you get an impact driver like this:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...d=impact+drive

Those damn torx are in there pretty good and very easily stripped out. Use one of these and you'll not have a problem and won't be making a trip back to buy new screws, or worse yet, having to drill out a broken one as several members on here have had to do.

Yep, be prepared for at least one of the bolts to put up a fight. Maybe things have improved for '08. Let us know. Also, I personally wouldn't use loctite, but to each their own.

So are the screws just really cheap or did Hercules himself put them in?? I'll have to remember to take it as easy as possible on them when trying to get them out. Would it be better to have hex heads in there instead??
