I have a 2006 Wide Glide and it has 500 miles on it. At purchase a Stage 1 Kit (filter / re-mapping) and SE II slip-on mufflers were installed. Vance and Hines Big Shots will be installed when available. The transmission shifts a little nosier than before the recall repair, however neutral is much easier to find. The gear ratios have a very good spread and sixth gear smoothes the bike out for a very nice ride. I am having some problems with the front end. The bike makes a clunking sound when applying the front brake. The dealer is telling me this is normal condition with the Wide Glides. Their explanation of the problem is the springs in the struts are bowing and hitting the ID or the bearings in the neck have the incorrect torque applied. They tell the bearing torque will be checked and corrected at the 1000 mile service. This is my third Harley Davidson and my second Dyna and none have had this anomaly.

Wow...holy crap..I have the same thing dude...only at slow speeds..typically in traffic...If I hit the front brake a little hard/urgent, I hear something kinda clicking. The only thing I can compare it to is...if you're familiar with bicycles, a loose headset. When I was a kid I used to build my bikes. I was really into BMX and used to loosen the headsets all the time..this is almost the same feeling. Any other DWG owners feel this. For me, it's only once in a while..but it's there.

obviously your dealer didn't check fall away while doing pre delivery. a neck bearing that loose may cause tank slappers------be careful!

The reason I'm not a fan of the new clutch is I like the feel of the heavy clutch and the 'clunk' when i stomp it into gear. Just feels more like a harley than a honda. No biggy, just like the feel of it.
I couldn't agree more with you on this. Back in 1979 my buddy had a Sporster and I had a Kawasaki 650. The heavy clutch and the clunking of the gears was what made a Harley a Harley.

I don't ride in traffic too often and the few times I did the clutch effort was not a problem.

I have not had this problem with my 06 WG, but I will keep and "ear" open to check for it. If it is loose, then they should have to fix it wether your due for a service or not. Assuming you bought the warranty.

Hacksaw,

I was in a similiar boat having owned a few sloptails, primarly a night train for several years and shovel FL's previously (along with Triumph's, BSA's).

Between you and me, the '06 dyna's are a hell of a bike. The bagger guys who've spun 'em around even comment on the nice ride. Add to the mix the unadvertised 'MKII' TC88 mods done to the Dyna engines i.e. cam primary chain tensioner, light as hell clutch, slightly better flowing heads, improved oiling, slick shifting 6 speed tranny, fat forks, floating front disk, standard FI....well you get the idea; big upgrades and a dream ride. If it were not for these improvements, I'd be on a new Springer or Heritage classic instead of an '06 FXDI35 and I don't regret that for a second after taking one for a spin. For me, it was a no brainer.

just bought an 06 Dyna WG. I'm too "old school" I guess.... the bike is great .....if you like "jap type bikes". it is toooo smooth. haven't done anything to it yet only got 456 miles on it. EFI is great for cold starts but don't like the lag in throttle response. Bought the bike so the old lady could ride comfortable. I have had a lot of hard tails in the past. Also the last bike I had was a hardtail custom w/113 in S&S, with the super G carb, Awsome ride. This bike is quite a change for me. It IS smooth as hell. can't do anything with the sound already put screamin eagle slip ons on it and still not the Harley sound because of the fuel injection it won't idle down low to get the real thump, if you know what I mean.

1. Did you change pipes? Full exhaust or slip on? Getting V&H Big Radius
2. Did you remap? HD or aftermarket Stage 1 and SERT
3. How do you like the 6 speed? I LOVE it!
4. How is the new clutch? GREAT!!
5. How does your passenger (if you carry one) like the swingarm mounted pegs? Not a problem at all.
6. Any other general observations comparing it to older dynas or other HD's. I came from a Sportster and the WG is AWESOME!!!

I am so glad we got this 06 WG! What a blast!!!

You know Scrap Iron, I also come from the old school. 50's-70's bikes all the way; but for a primary rider, the new school has changed things up for me and expanded my preferences. I'll keep the tinkering for the second bike or third...or fourth! There's room in my garage for them all.
