I just picked up my new 06 Superglide FXDI last week. It is SWEET.

1. Did you change pipes?
The bike came with Python staggered duals from the dealer.
2. Did you remap?
Harley Cartridge
3. How do you like the 6 speed?
Excellent
4. How is the new clutch?
Very nice. Definitely very easy pull compared to any other Harley I've ridden (several).
5. How does your passenger (if you carry one) like the swingarm mounted pegs?
Non issue. Compared to the Sporty we had before, the Dyna with the Sundowner seat is like a throne for my wife.
6. Any other general observations comparing it to older dynas or other HD's.
This bike is certainly like a new generation Harley. It rides extremely well, runs smooth as silk, handles great. The bike is also very beefy. The entire feel of the Superglide is different now. It feels very wide and "thick". I LOVE it. Very happy and glad I bought it.

I'm in the market for a new bike and I've been going back and forth between a Heritage Softail and Superglide Custom. I think the comments in this thread have helped me make my mind up.

thanks again for all the opinions.

I'm afraid the bike is going to be 'too smooth' as someone else mentioned. This should be a good thing but it just wouldn't seem like a HD to me.

I should know if the next couple of days if i'm gonna bite the bullet and trade for an 06 or maybe an 05 carb dyna if I can find one.

Check out the new issue of American Iron. There's a really good article on the new Dynas. They love them. They say the '06 Super Glide is Harley's best handling big twin.
I wish I could find that mag around here in NJ. Don't suppose they have a website with that article do they?
Thanks man

Todd
i checked their website, no articles. Do you have a Tower Records or Kroger grocery store? They both carry it. Or most good book stores will have it. PM if you can't find it, i can scan you a copy.

which month issue is it? I found an american iron mag but couldn't find any dyna articles. (it's possible that the new issue is out and they've pulled the new issue off the stands. Could you email me a scan of it?

Don't worry, there is still a clunk when you put it into first. LOL BTW why would you like the feel of a heavy clutch? HD did a great job on the new one. I think the one of the biggest items no one is mentioning is the FI. It's great, push the button and go, and no more warmup, choke or petcock to screw around with. I have owned and built lots of bikes and ridden dozens and I have to say, the 06 Dyna is by far my favorite. You can't go wrong.

Besides the pillion and sissy bar (BTW the swingarm mounted pegs are a non issue), the only mod I did was the pipes. I drilled out the baffles and added the Big City Thunder Monster baffles (1 5/8" diameter, in the head pipes just before the mufflers so I will have the right back pressure), and 79 bucks later it sounds like a Harley and runs great. No downloads. I like the looks of the stock mufflers, looks like a big Sportster.

When it's time for a new air filter, I will add the K & N drop in replacement, high flow filter.

i'm looking for some opinions on the 06 dynas. I've had 2 dynas (both fxd) before and loved them. My last bike i decided to try a softail for the first time (deluxe) I can't say i've been overly impressed with the handling or the 88b motor.

I'm trying to decide if i should keep the softail, buy an 05 dyna (then i know what i'm getting) or an 06 dyna.

I'm a little hesitant to pick up an 06 dyna because it's a first year production. I'm not a fan of the new clutch and especially not the closed loop system.

So if you have an 06 dyna i'd like to hear your opinions on your bike. I'd especially like to hear from those who have owned other harleys so they have something to compare to...

1. Did you change pipes? Full exhaust or slip on?
2. Did you remap? HD or aftermarket
3. How do you like the 6 speed?
4. How is the new clutch?
5. How does your passenger (if you carry one) like the swingarm mounted pegs?
6. Any other general observations comparing it to older dynas or other HD's

any other info or opinions is appreciated.

I've owned a Sporty, a '98FXD, an 03 FLTR and now another FXDI. I'm an old guy and wanted to go back to a lighter, more nimble bike.
The Sporty had Pythons, the FXD had Cycle Shacks while the FLTR and the '06 Dyna will stay with stock pipes.
Yes, I like the 6 speed, getting about 45 mpg
Love the clutch for any stop and go riding
I ride solo
The FXD is a very simple, not too flashy, riders motorcycle. I'm back to the point where motorcycles, I feel, should be an engine, a couple of wheels and a set of handle bars. The only extras I've added are functional: longer stemmed mirrors, fog lights, windshield, changed out the seat and added a permanent luggage rack plus a detachable sissy bar and rack for my "T" bag.

1. Did you change pipes? Full exhaust or slip on?

SEI slip-ons

2. Did you remap? HD or aftermarket
HD at dealer - runs great

3. How do you like the 6 speed?
A definite plus.

4. How is the new clutch?
See #3

5. How does your passenger (if you carry one) like the swingarm mounted pegs?
So far no complaints.

6. Any other general observations comparing it to older dynas or other HD's
I like it. Test drove a FXDCI, FXDI, Duece, ST Standard, and Fat Boy.

Really like the handling on the Low Rider.

Getting forward controls installed on May 25.
