Default windshields

I am planning on taking a long (3000+ mi) Trip this june and I was thinking about putting on a windshield,
So those of you that have used them I would like to know the opinions between full size and the low profile ones..........Thanks

I have the full sized detachable. It's great when you are putting on a ton of miles, reduces fatigue and also the amount of rain, dirt, bug crap, and whatever else may hit you. Not the most beautiful accesory on the bike, but one of the best as far as I'm concerned. As I mentioned, it's detachable, so last year I took it off in the Black Hills for all of the day rides. But for the long haul nothing is better.

I have the full size detachable (old style). Great for long rides. Just be sure you can see over the top of it by a couple of inches. I have to cut mine down a bit, hits me right at eye level, which is very distracting. Worse at night with the head light reflection that can be reduced by adding a visor style ring to the light.
This style with the mounts that attach to the forks go pretty cheap on eBay. Clamps come off pretty easily if you want it off for a long time. You won't believe the difference in comfort once you get rolling.

I resisted for a long time. Two years ago I got pounded for 150 miles going up to Laconia. I was the only A hole in the group who didn't have one. I ordered the quick release one the first day I got back. Well worth it. Infact I liked it so much I went out and bought a Geezer Glide . Will never give up my wideglide though....just the windsheild since I have my Ultra for the long hauls.

I have the standard size HD quick detachable. I avoid it like the plague. But, there are times when it's nice, as much as I hate it. Minimizes the bugs, safer for flying road debris, and as someone else said, it does reduce fatigue. At highway speeds, you don't realize just how hard you are holding on until you do it with a windshield and see how much further and longer you can go without a breather. Mine still stays in my shop 99% of the time. I'll easily do several hours on the bike without it on but I'm stubborn that way. It's an expensive piece to just sit on a shelf all the time. But, then again, so is my cushy Tallboy seat, detachable sissy bar with backrest and luggage rack, among a few other things. I've got almost 4k in extras invested and about 1/4 of that investment sits in my shop most of the time collecting dust. But, when you need or want it, you need or want it...

I'm the opposite, I got mine (HD QD) shortly after some highway riding and getting hit by debis a little too often.
Got it set up right, and now everytime I take it off for a ride, I start wondering why I did that again.
Now it stays on 95% of the time, Yeah, I'm a wuss, but a comfortable one, LOL.

Reminds me of the Vetter fairings from the early 70s, functional but not part of the motorcycle. A tombstone windshield is all HD, (and maybe a little Elvis).

I have the quick release on my bob and that is one of the best investments. I can sit back and relax without getting blown back and forth by the wind.

You should get one. Its well worth the money.
