I have a quick release standard for highway runs with backrest for luggage or passenger. It is comfortable but I take all off for just cruising around town.

The Locusts came out to play last year, here in Northern Illinois. I have a HD QD (fork tube clamps) on my FXDL. I killed about 20 of those whoppers!

......and, "June Bugs wear helmets!"

well it looks like the popular concensus is to get one, has anyone tried the diffrence between low profile and standard?

I have a National Cycle windscreen that I took off of my 1200C when I traded it in. It fit's the FXDC with no problem. It's pretty low profile, easy to put on and take off, and relatively inexpensive. There's so much crap on the roads here in San Antonio that I rarely take it off. And it's small enough that I do get some air moving around me when it's hot.

A super sport quick release. The one in my sig.pic. Took it off last summer and got stung on the head and ears buy a yellow jacket and a honey bee at the same time! Now it stays on 90% of the time.

What you get should depend on your height. You want to be looking just over the top of the windshield, not through it and not too far over it or else it's virtually useless. With the QD windshields, you have some adjustment in that you can move them up and down the tubes between the upper and lower tree (a couple inches up or down). I'm quite tall so, with the standard shield, I attach mine as far up on the trees as I can get it and it's perfect there. What isn't perfect, to me, is how it looks. I just hate it. I know I shouldn't let that stop me in the name of comfort but I do, unless I'm traveling a significant distance at highway speeds most of the way. Then, I hope when I get there, there is somewhere I can take it off and leave it until I'm ready to head back.

I like and prefer the wind in my face. But the bugs and potential rocks in your face isn't so fun. We don't really have any giant bugs around here to worry about and I've been fortunate to not get hit by any rocks or anything like that so far. But we do have these little gnats, we call "no-see-ums" that sometimes hover over roads in little "clouds". Must be hundreds of them bunched together. They are not fun to ride through. Makes one learn to ride with lips clinched, I can tell you that.

I have a quick-detatch regular shield...
H-D makes Quick-detatch shields that allow for room for their aux. lighting accessory to be used... Get that shield... this will have the benefit for lowering the shield down between triple trees to dial in the height better.

The difference is in the distance between the two detatachable clamps on each side...

FWIW I think I look through my shield as opposed to over it per say but I do not seem to get any buffeting.
I also only use it when riding 2 up but would definately attach to go long distances.

I'm 6'-1" and the HD QD standard height works good for me. See over it and if it's raining hard duck down behind it.
It's on the bike 95% of the time. It'amazing how many bugs it catches that you would have normally caught.

I have the HD super sport QD also.
It really does make the long rides a lot more comfortable. I'm thinking about adding the Memphis Shades lowers to see if that wont disrupt the updraft I have over my chest and wants to lift the basket off my head.
When it comes down to it, I'd rather deal with the updraft than have the feeling of getting blown off the bike at 90+
With the windsheild, I can burn a full tank of gas without stopping.
Without the shield, I need to make premature fuel stops just to take a break. If the bimbo's leaning forward, its not so bad. If she's against the backrest, I get trashed.
