It's about the "the right way is MY way" approach to some of the advice that is given. Actually, it's not just that so much as I was just pondering why we all work so hard at making our bikes "ours" and then turn around and tell others to do it the same way.
That's where one can't be lazy. Of course there will be a considerable amount of BS and adamant "my way or the highway" crap. That's were research and knowing what you need come in. Some people require direction and if they follow blindly the will have problems. I guess I tend to filter out the "My way" crap when I read advice here. It's really easy to get info on line to substantiate what you read in a thread.

I get the point of the original thread, making our bikes ours, but asking advice on mods from this forum.

I have asked and received alot of advice on this part and that mod, with many thanks to all.

But, I bet if you take 5 mods, and put those same 5 mods on 100 bikes or so, I believe each of those bikes will still be different in so many other ways.

Think about it, look at the picks of all the bikes in this forum, each might have one, two, four or more of the same parts, but how many actually look and perform alike?

We are all fairly successful and strong willed people...
I'm just a mild mannered chauffeur.......

I think it's cool when someone does something to a bike.... rates it a 10 in their good idea scale then spreads that around so others may do the same and have the same experience.
Personally, to me, it's a good feeling when I do something in any part of life and people copy, appreciate, or acknowledge it.
Normally most mods are bolt on and accesible to just about anyone so making it our own will often entail others to have the same mod on their bike but many different ones as well thereby making it their own..... If someone decides to say get the same A/C cover I put on my bike that's cool. His bike will still be his own even if we have 1 or 2 of the same mods.

It's all very confusing to me, and my lighter keeps getting broken

Funny thing, I've been collecting stock parts to put back on my bike, just sos it looks more like a Harley. They are not mystock parts, since they came off other folks rides.......... pretty trick when you think about it. It's lookin more like the day I bought it everyday.
By the time I am done, I will still have spent several thousand bucks in it, and eventually have a purely stock bike again......
Then I'll start over.
I don't advise anybody else to do this, though.

How many of you have seen rides identical to yours. There are only so many HD and aftermarket parts out there and everyone goes to the same suppliers yetI doubt if there are any two bikes that look exactly alike. There is always something thatmakes your bike unique. Besideswhat fun is it to build your bike then not pass on all the "good ideas" that you have come up with?

Jeez Doug, if only people read your post FIRST they could save all kinds of money!

Back to the op's question - pride, simple pride in what we each have done to create our own vision. There really isn't too much new under the sun that hasn't been done or tried a zillion times. But for some of us, seeing it done in a particular way by other forum members stirs our imagination and creativity. It's all about how we each put those ideas together. And then share our experiences, good and bad. That's called pride, the good kind.

Heck, ain't much original about my ride since it's just a whole lot of forum members' ideas and suggestions put together my way. And I am extremely grateful for everyone's help. A whole lot of people outside this forum seem to hold too much to themselves and aren't the sharing type for fear someone will "steal" their ideas. But not here! And boy am I glad! Doubt I could have created my bobstah otherwise.

It maybe "psychobabble" but I think we all want to be helpful to the people who honor the same ideas we hold dear. The difference is that "there is no accounting for taste" There are things a majority of us think are cool, but not all. We all bounce ideas around or look at each others bikes for good ideas and want to know the details and how it was done. I don't think that if there were millions of members on this forum, any two bikes would turn out exactly the same. Just my .02
