Default Universal Mount Helmet Lock... 2008 FXDC

I have had an issue since buying the bike with my helmet... Cant lock it on the bike like I used to do with my previous Hondas...

Anyway, went to the dealer and bought me a Universal Mount Helmet Lock... so I asked where it is supposed to be fitted, he said the front frame of the bike...

I figured, before completing the transaction, let the dealer show me where exactly..

They had an FXDC in the showroom... we opened the package... tried to fit it to the front frame... Nope... the 2008 models come with a thicker tube, therefore the universal mount cant fit... I tried it also on the handle bar... too loose...

Anyway, as a temp solution, I bought a normal lock which can lock the helmet to the backrest (my problem is the backrest is detacheable )...

Any ideas guys? I cant keep carrying the helmet everywhere with me.

this is the part I am talking about

If I was in your situation, this is what I would to. Get a fork bag and get one of those smallplastic covered cable locks to put in it. Then just strap your helmet to the to triple clamp or wherever you want to hook it to when you leave your bike somewhere. Ive seen guys do that w/ helmets and leathers and it worked just fine.

I dont know ifHD offers a fork bag for your bike, but I have one for mine. I keep my clear glasses in it just in case I get caught out somewhere at night. If Harley doesnt offer one, look into an aftermarket one. They look nice and have just enough storage for the little things like locks and glasses

I had the same problem. I have the mid controls with the hwypegs up front, and I put mine on the extension tube that runs out to the peg. I know they can take off the tube, but they will need some tools, and probably would just cut the strap.

There is no safe way to keep a helmet attached to a bike. Strap can be cut in 2 seconds and hardly draw any attention.

I put on a Boss Bag which can be locked with a small Master Lock. Same thing, a motivated thief can cut the heavy leather, but it would draw a lot of attention. It also keeps the helmet protected and out of sight. See pic below. The boss bag is bolted to a plate under the luggage rack making it almost impossible to steal without the right tools easily or quickly (but again, not impossible).

I hang my helmet on the mirror and lock the D-ring to the throttle or clutch cable if I park where I think it's necessary. Simple, cheap, and about as secure as any place that is exposed.

Here's an interesting site:

http://www.lockitt.com/accessories_helmet_holders.htm

They have some interesting solutions to the problem, but the fact is I just hang my helmet from my right grip (with my gloves tucked inside) and have never had a problem.

Maybe people assume if you mess with a Harley you get a free ***-kicking, so go steal the helmets off the Hondas instead.
