RE: Damn bees hurt! What's your worst/best bug story?
tomato "Seems like Illinois takes the award for the most incidents."
Add me to the list. Not sure if it was a bee or not but I was
going 70, don’t know how fast the bug was going when it
smacked into my chest. Lesson learned,
I leave my windshield on now.
RE: Damn bees hurt! What's your worst/best bug story?
Taking a ride through the pineapple fields of Oahu a few years ago...Kamehameha Hwy north of the Dole Plantation.
Saw the bugger a split second before he hit my lip just under the nose...a$$ first.
After the hit I felt something flapping a little on my lip, thought it was skin or blood. When I finally got to a place to stop (5 miles later), I looked in the rearview and saw a little while venom sac attached to the stinger, buried right in my face.
Swelled up pretty big from all the venom, looked like bart simpson for a couple of days. But you should have seen the bee...

Tomato,
I posted this story a couple years ago when someone asked- full face shield or what?
Well, I was riding with my bud in NH at highway speeds, 65-75 or something like that. All of a sudden he took a direct hit on his front teeth by , of all things, a June bug. Three teeth were snapped off. Frigging totally painfull, but luckily he kept it under control and stopped without laying it down. He was screaming like a banshee, but his low rider was OK! You note the priority here.
A couple thousand $$ later, his teeth were fixed. He now rides with a full face shield.\\Go figure.\
RE: Damn bees hurt! What's your worst/best bug story?
several lifetimes ago I was riding my old CB900F on the freeway and wearing a full face helmet; had the visor up though - anyway a wasp came and nearly hit me straight in the face....thought I'd dodged it but then I could feel it buzzing around inside my helmet right by my ear. Keep in mind I'm going like 65 MPH at the time. So I start shaking my head to get the thing to fall out while I'm slowing down to get to the side of the road.....I feel it fall out.....right down inside my shirt....little bastage stung me on the chest and stomach 3 or 4 times before I got off the bike and squashed him.
RE: Damn bees hurt! What's your worst/best bug story?
Hit a sworm of bees a couple weeks ago. About7 or so bounced off me and one got stuck in my glove. Had my wife on back and tried to get her to get it out but she could tell what i was talking about. I pulled my glove off and she pulled out the stinger.
my hand swelled HUGE. Got hives over both hands and still have the mark from where he got me.
As far as bugs hell i live in the middle of CAcentralvalley surounded by cropland. I cant even begin tocount my insect incounters.
RE: Damn bees hurt! What's your worst/best bug story?
The year was 1993 and I had just finished my finals at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Almost everything I owned I sold off or took home in the car a couple of weeks earlier, so when I finished finals I headed out on my 1981 Honda CX500. Less than 10 miles out of town, a wasp flew up my sleeve and proceeded to sting once, twice, three times before I can even decide what to do. I try to get it over to the side of the road as fast as I can, but the shoulder is all loose (I mean VERY loose) gravel, so I almost dump it trying to get stopped and lock up the back tire as I brought it to a complete stop. Several cars got to watch me do a rain dance as I stripped off everything from the top half of my body. I think I was stung a couple more times before I could get everything off.
I had a bee nail me in the neck a couple of years ago as I was slowing at a stoplight. It felt like I got punched.

Damn lucky I took the June Bug on the knuckle! Those things are armor plated. I wear my full face on all my long rides, despite all the crap I get. I'd rather be comfortable when I'm hauling azz on the highway.
Nothing new worth mentioning for me.Although a recent night ride helped reinforce my full face decision. Got home and couldn't believe I made it - literally couldn't see into my helmet when I took it off.
I do have a good bird story though - fortunately I was in my truck. A giant Egret (wingspan must have been 4-5 feet) lazily took off from the side of I-5 just as I was approaching at about 80 MPH. Swooped right in front of my windshield - missed him by inches. If I would have hit him, he would have come through and been in my damn lap.
RE: Damn bees hurt! What's your worst/best bug story?
I was racing in a local moto-cross back in the late seventys when a tarantula wasp got under mt goggles some how and got me right below the eye. My eyes was black and swollen shut before I can get stopped and bale off. Damn that hurt more that the giant Texas grasshoppers we dealt with in west Texas.
RE: Damn bees hurt! What's your worst/best bug story?
Just yesterday I was driving from the job in my big service truck and noticed 3 bikes coming up on me on the freeway. As i was looking in the mirror I heard what sounded like a machine gun. I looked up and my windshield was covered in bee guts and honey, hit a swarm. Then I remembered the bikes. I looked over as they passed they all 3 had windshields and the honey and guts was oozing everywhere. They were all ricers so i laughed! Ha Ha.

June bug in left cheek bone just under the eye at 85 mph. By the time I got home the eye was swollen shut and was spreading to the other eye. Lady luck was riding with me I made it home. Took three days before I could see good enough to ride again.
