Can anyone help me with some info or advice on brake light problem?
I adjusted the bars and hand controls the other day, and after that the brake light stays on.
My ? is this; if the switch goes out, is this what happens (brake light stays on) or should i look elsewhere for the problem.
I installed mimi apes a few weeks ago and everthing was working fine.
Any help with this would be great.
John
Sometimes if you loosen up your contols to adjust them, the brake switch in the housing doesn't line up right. When you lightly pull on the brake lever do you hear a "clicking" sound? If not lossing them up and readjust. Or....you might just be crimping a wire between the housing and bar.
Their is a copper v looking shim that hits the brake lever and the brake switch check to see if that is still their and lined up. The brake switch is normally open so if you should hit the switch and loose the lights good luck hope that helps.
Well, i'm afraid ya'll are right.
no clicking sound at all comming from the brake handle area, also i disconnected the foot brake wire, still no go.I took the seat off to see if i could get some slack on the wires tru the frame to disconnect the wires up front, man thats mess in there to see whitch one to pull,
any more suggestions before i have to take it to the steelers and get raped. Also i could'nt find the little v clip, so i'll have to get another one somewhere, thanks again for any help.
First time I took my controls off I did the same thing..... What I did was to glue a small piece of a credit card onto the brake lever and it worked from then on.... no problems
The brakelight switch is pretty easy to replace. They only cost $25.00 from the dealer.
Its a matter of pulling the switch housing apart andremoving the old switch. Cut the two wires (O/W & R/Y) wires to the old switch a couple inches from the switch. Solder the wires from the new switch to the old wires. Replace the switch in its housing, then replace the copper wedge. Be careful of rubber boot which surrounds the plunger. Reattach switch housing to handle bars. Place a piece of cardboard (5/32 or thicker) between the brake lever and the brake lever clamp. Replace brake lever/master cylinder assembly on bars.
