Default I scored a new primary cover

I just won a new take off wrinkle black outer primary cover off a forward control fat bob for $112. That means I can get rid of the cover with the hole for the shifter shaft. I'll post pics when it arrives and I get it installed. I priced one out at the dealer and it was around $250 so I think I got a good deal.

Let me get this straight. The FB's with the factory forwards are using a different inner/outer primary cover than the mid control models?

Anyway, make sure you find agood wayto seal that hole on your inner real good, because if the FB outer is like the WG's then it's possible to lose fluid out of the inner side or worse, water to get in.

The forward control model has an outer primary cover without the shifter shaft hole just like the chrome wide glide cover only wrinkle black.

I understand that much. I guess what I was pointing out is, the factory WG'S use a different inner than the rest of the Dyna's becasue of the factory forward controls. If I were to utilize a factory WG outer I would have to be concerend about making sure the inner shaft opening was sealed up good and tite to prevent the above mentioned issue.

Guess I was just curious about the inner primary aspect of it on the FB's. Gotta guess they are making them all solid or notdepending on the build outta the factory. The option is still cool though to be able to order it that way.

I understand what you are saying. I would think that the only differeance of the inner is that one has a hole for the shifter shaft but on our mid control models the hole is sealed because you can remove the shaft without a problem. I dont think a different outer cover would affect it, at least I hope it wouldn't. Here is a pic of the inside of the cover. You can see where the hole would be if it were a mid control cover.

You'll find out the difference when you pull that stock outer off. See the spot where the hole would normally be on that new outer? Well on your stock one, it actually extends out as a shaft that meets up with a shaft on the iside part of your inner to create a sealed throughput shaft for your mid controls to run through.
Without this inner shaft on the new outer you not goingto havea complete seal and stuff can exit/enter through the outer part of the inner primary where the stock shaft goes through.

Dont worry about the hole in the inner, you can probably just plug it with a slug machined out of soft aluminium, or better yet since you never see it, measure the hole and find a pipe plug size thats close and buy the plug and tap.
