I'm not saying it won't work, you'll just need to make sure the hole is sealed good on that inner. For example, I went from a stock silver inner on my FXD to a black inner from a SE Dyna, hence no factory hole on the outside part of my inner to worry about. But, because I'm running a Street Bob outer with the plug in it (which I just painted black to match) theoretically I could possibly have the same issue, just not as likely to since the outer primary is at a downward tilt the majority of the time and a lot easier to get to if I saw any sign of it leaking. It's just food for thought before you get into it.
That's what I was trying to say in my last post. I realized that I may have freaked him out a little bit, and gave him the impression it was a bad idea. I just wanted to make sure he realized this before he started tearing into it. Some guys might not like the idea of that hole being there. Better he knows now than later.
Hey nice job man! I picked up my cover (same, no hole for mids) from my dealer's ebay store for $7.00, about time I get an upper hand lol.
Just picked up my inner cover last week and am just going to get a length of properly threaded rod, cut to size, add JB weld to the threads and screw it in. No leak issue and the hole will stay plugged!
Had the same deal on my FXRS with forward controls. The guy before me had an aluminum plug welded in the inner primary. It worked for a lot of miles before springing a significant leak from a pinhole in the weld. I cleaned it good and JB welded over the whole thing. It never leaked again.
