Low Rider
As I promissed, here is a photo of the New Progressive 430 shocks I just had installed along with the Progressivefork loweringspring kit. Also had quite a bit of chrome put on over the winter.....literally from front to rear, top to bottom andnumerous points in between. These shocks are fully adjustable without tools. If you have a BLACK bike, or dont do chrome......these come in black!!!!! Here is what they say about them.........."a high pressure gas mono tube design with deflective disk damping to insure high performance ride control the 430 Series can also be mounted rod up or rod down, depending on your application. Threaded pre-load adjusters allow for tool-less adjustment, and effortless tuning of ride quality. First of their kind, machined aluminum spring perches and street rod styling of the new 430 Series are complimented by smooth lines and a polished chrome body. Available in chrome or contrast cut black anodized finish to match the look of your bike"

I first noticed the lowrider on the showroom floor when I was there to look at the wide glide my husband wanted. I just saw the LR and said, "OOOH!". I was not a rider, and not planning on being one...perfectly happy on the back of Joe's bike. Then, January '08, our local dealer had a ladies garage night. I went for fun, and joked about the fact that they had prize drawings, and grand prize was a Rider's Edge course paid in full. (Like I'd really ever really take the class.)
Then, at the garage night, they introduced a new class called Training Wheels, a 4 hour, basic introductory course for people considering learning how to ride, but otherwise are clueless. Next thing I know, I'm signing up for training wheels for that very weekend!
Part of the garage party, was free reign of the showroom, tosit on bikes, and get to know them.... someone was on that LR, and I said, "hey, get off my bike!" Another lady there introduced me to the Street Bob. I tried it out, and heard all about how the handle bars were better for me, I'd need forward controls, it has a lower center of gravity, etc. I went home surprised that I was even considering learning how to ride.
Well, I took training wheels, practiced more on a Kawasaki before takiing Riders Edge, and got my license a little over one month ago. So, my husband says, we need to get you a Harley. So we went to the dealer, and I went straight to the LR. Then I looked again at the street bob, just because of what everyone said at the party that night. Then Joe suggested I try every bike, and I mean EVERY one, just to make sure I ended up with what I really wanted.
So, I'm sitting on different bikes for HOURS, but kept going back to the LR. Now, understand, I am DUMB about motorcycles, I can't tell you I like the chrome this or blacked out that, I just went with my emotion, and the Low Rider is the one that had the "wow factor" for me.
Being a new rider, I was actually hesitant to buy a new bike, and worry about all the money I was putting at risk everytime I rode the thing. I was afraid I'd be thinking more about the value of the bike than what I had to do to keep it upright and enjoy the ride. I decided to buy used, and found this beautiful 1996 Low Rider with 25,000 miles on it for a very good price. (a price that wouldn't stress me, so I could enjoy it.)
I'm just starting to get the "I want to change this or that" bug, but I lucked out because the one I found had most of what I was looking for, mini ape hangers, forward controls, and mag wheels. The only thing it didn't have was a windshield, and I got that for mother's day. I'm now waiting for delivery of my new seat. Then some of the added eagles have to go. I have custom hand painted detail on the bike, including eagles on the tanks. But it has an eagle battery cover, and an eagle a/c cover. I really think the theme thing can be over done, so I want to go straight chrome on those items.
Well, sorry I made a short story long.
I've had my Low Rider for a little overa month, and I didn't want any other, and I don't regret a thing!Thank you all for participating in this LR love fest... it's been fun!

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Donna.......I was exactly where you've just been. Even though I had my cycle endorsement, it was 20 years inbetween bikes and riding. I bought my new Low Rider last year onMay 11th, and was taking the Riders Edge Course the same day my new bike was delivered. Guess what,I Failed the riding partby one point. A couplestupid mistakes.....but I'm set toretaking it next week. With a year of riding under my belt and more experience, I should pass this time with flying colors.
So Donna, Welcome to the Ladies of Harley. BTW, for those who may be interested in a riding buddy, St Paul Harley of Minnesota has
RIDE WITH ME...St Christopher medals you can get from Amazon.com They're pretty neat andthey have 2 medals to pick from. One shows a Touring bike with bags, the other is morelike the Dyna or Softailfamily. Although they list it as a key chain, you can attach it anywhere on your bike.
I think I got fortunate to have found my bike at the right time. It has provided me with a great starting point to get it to where it is today. I love my LR!
Jake
That is one bad lookin Lowrider. Only in my dreams do I ever see mine lookin anywhere close to that.
