Someone on here somewhere asked about the RPMs on the 06 Dyna models. I finally remebered to look today and in 6th gear, going 65 mph, on flat ground, the RPMs are about 2500.
Gotta love that same 1:1 ratio i'm only at 2200 rpms at 65mph on flat ground with a five speed.
Steve
This has popped up before. Same ratio yes.....different size main on the final drive. You could put that on a 5 speed but it would kill you in the low end, as the 06 ratios are different than the 05 and earlier( like the trick with Sporties swapping them between 883 and 1200). I think the difference is a bit different than posted, I dont know. I do know my buddies motor is screamin' at 85 (5 speed), and I am a tad over idle? 5 speed guys are of two sides of the fence from what I have noticed.... one side wants to down play the 6 speed, in order to......make them feel better or somthing>???
These are not over drive trannies. ( like a 4 speed w/ OD and a 5 speed) I like that because you still have that low end torque. A true overdrive would be a more drastic difference in RPMs, but you would have to down shift to accellerate with any sense of urgency.
Im not a Big Motor Head or anything...... know just enough to be dangerous. ( lol )
What I can tell you is my experience with my bike.
I get the following......
55 mph @ 2100 RPM
65 mph @ 2500
75 mph @ a tad under 3000
All in 5th gear, general flat surface.
What does this mean ?
Dunno..... but I can tell ya at 75 mph, my motor is Not Screaming.
Case of "Sour Grapes" ?
Not hardly... I LOVE my Bike !
And if I find the 6-Speed is more suited to my taste, I'll take the New bike when I buy the next one. ( Wife wants her own soon . )
Or mod this one with a new Motor and tranny instead of rebuild when the time comes.
Have test rode the 06 WG...... and it was very nice..... but not that much of an improvement for me to jump into one just yet.
Maybe if I spent alot of time on the Super Slab @ 90 mph I would be able to make a better judgement.... But honestly I'd rather be doing 55-60 mph on a nice country road. ( 98% of my riding is below 70 mph. )
Dont think the 6-Speed is gonna help me much there.
