Default Backrest Upright Install - WRF!!

Well, no job could seem simpler! Then there is the rear bolt which is thread from inside the rear fender, out through the turn signal. How in the **** do you get that bolt pulled back far enough to get the upright positioned? I have a MC lift, but it seems HD does not want us using one on the Dyna. [sm=headbang.gif]

Some of you may have tackled this one before, so toss a secret or two my way! I know I am probably 3 beers away from figuring it out, but I am plum out of suds! [:@]

Oh yea, I am talking about the rigid upright (non removable).

Thanks guys!

easyiest way is lift your bike, then let the air out of your tire then push down on the tire and remove the bolt. or take your tire off. jackyl

When I did mine, there was barely enough clearance for the signal bolt.
As long as the little tin strip is left in place, you should be able to pull the bolts with teh bike on the jiffy stand. It the tin thingie slips out of the hole, you'll have to push it back in to get the bolt out.
Another thing I did when I was fighting it was lift up on the fender a bit to give me a bit more room around the tire

Support the bike on the lift, remove the shocks, jack up the bike.

No you don't have to remove the shocks!Use a small jack and lift the rear frame about 4-6 inches.... use caution might need a spotter on the other side.... I did it myself in 20 minutes.

So when you jack the bike up (assume with a small floor jack), you are jacking it up and leaving it lean on the side stand?????

Had more room to work with on my WG. Still a PITA though. Good luck.

Were talking about 4 bolts here dude!
If any of ya are afraid to remove the rear shocks to do some work, ya may just want to take it to a shop to get the work done!
