Default Suggestions/Ideas/Help!!

Ok here goes. I am replacing the rear peg brackets on my 07 FXDC. The exhaust side was easy. Now the issue. The drive belt side is giving me a problem. The upper chrome belt guard is bolted to a flange on the peg bracket. My issue is due to the angle of the peg bracket I can not get the proper angle to seat the torx bit.My ratchet actually rests on the bracket and when I go to unloosen it it has slipped out of the head twice. I don't want to go any further without input for fear of rounding the torx slot on the bolt. I think the rounding has started a bit. I tried allens incase I was stupid with the wrench as I am wrench challenged!!But it definitely appears to be a tork. Can't find it in the manual to confirm.

Has anyone else run into this issue and if so what was your resolution to it. I was thinking two things. First I can dremmel a slot in the head and use a large screwdriver. Second not sure if multiple extension and a 1/4 drive set would work. I think even with adapters the housing/ratchet end of the torx would still sit on the bracket itself not allowing proper seating of the tork inside the bolt.

Hog

I think I remember when I did this a couple years back -

I used the torx bit alone, no ratchet,
with a boxend wrench driving the torx bit.

Maybe.

I remember it was a pain in the ***.... You need a snake type wrench to get at it...The instructions say to loosen the belt if you are not mechanically inclined, find someone who is.

Thanks folks. Gonna try once with an extension to hopefully allow enough of an angle off the peg and if that is not sucessfulsee if I can use a box wrench or adjustable on a torx. It is like a T-40 so not sure if I can find an individual torx for the wrench application. Not sure on loosening the belt. Instructions say just to loosen the back nut and bolt slightly to allow a bit of play to get at the bolts into the framw. Nothing about the belt itself. Will look into it and let you know how it goes.

Torx won't do it as I rounded it so it looks like cutting a groove with the dremel and using a large screwdriver. Actually gonna try an manual impactwrench tomorrow. Time to drink tonight.

Finally got it off. Saved the threads but ruined the head. Had to use a pointed punch and hammer to work it.
