Default Super Glide or Super Glide Custom?

I need some advice. I placed an order last fall for a Black 2008 Dyna Super Glide Custom and the dealer called me this week to tell me the bike has arrived. I went in there today to look at it and it turns out that they messed up my order and accidentally ordered a Super Glide instead of the Super Glide Custom model (FXD vs. FXDC). Its basically the stock bike in the color I ordered (Black) with the security alarm package.

Any thoughts on whether I should just take the standard Super Glide. When you compare the two bikes they are basically the same. The main differences appear to be:

1) Silver vs. chrome Primary and Cylinder heads
2) Single passenger seat (vs. dual with the FXDC)
3) Standard gas tank with speedo on handle bars vs. Fat Bob tank and speedo on tank
4) Aluminum wheels vs. wire spoked wheels

My thinking is that I mostly just like to ride and I don't care about some of these extras. Is it worth the extra $1,000 for the FXDC or should I just go with the basic model and customize it myself? It seems to me that most people end up replacing the stock seat anyways and there are some advantages to having the aluminum wheels vs. the wire spoked versions. The gas task looks better on the FXDC but you could argue that having the speedo on the handlebars is easier to look at.

Any thoughts? I know there are lots of bikes in stock so there shouldn't be any issues finding me an FXDC. I just wondered if its worth the extra bucks.

Let me know. Thx.

Jordan.

I went with the custom for basically the reasons you listed. I wanted the spoke wheels which look sharp. And alot of extra chrome up front.

And the big thing i also like is the tank console control center like it better than a spedo up on the bars.

Hard to believe the dealer "messed up" your order. They are going to have a hard time selling the SG based on MSR compared to the custom. Sounds like they just want to dump it on you. Is it really what you want?

There used to be big price difference - not anymore.

Don't let the dealer convince you of what YOU want.

Don't settle.

Customizingan FXD to FXDC (custom) specs will cost you much more than the difference in the price of the 2 bikes.

I personally would Not takea SuperGlide if I wanted a SuperGlide custom, in fact I bought the custom for the reasons listed above...Chrome,FAT tank,Console, Spoke Chrome Rims, Paint options with Pin stripeetc...

Sounds like your dealer needs to order you the Bike he agreed to order.

Do notpay nearly 15 thousand dollars fora bike you DONT want or are not 100 percent satisfied with.

Cheers,

Tom

ps...

FYI: When calculating the difference in prices DO NOT just factor the price of parts, the dealer charges nearly 80 dollars an hour to install parts. I am pretty sure something like changing out an outer primary for a chrome outer primary is in the 2-3 hour price range, so add 240.00 bucks in labor to the 341.00 bucks the part costs, and you are already at nearly 600 bucks just to replace ONE COMPONENT. Replacing other components can quickly add up to an ungodly amount of money just to bring the FXD up to FXDC spec.

Here's the deal - Don't settle. Now if you like the bike and don't mind having it, offer $10,500 out the door. Then walk away. Tell 'em you ordered a SG Custom, not a SG. Personally, I like the SG. I choose it over the black EG I went in to buy.

Jordan,

If asked, I always say, "don't settle", get what you really want the first time or you'll be back buying again. I have an FXDC and I love the tank and the connection to the 71 Superglide.

in addition to comments from 054 - the speedo position alone should guide you to the FXDC.

don't settle - you will regret it.

I'm a fan of the FXD myself, but you did not get what you wanted after waiting for quite awhile. I would use this as a bargaining chip to get something more outta the stealer for "screwing up your order" .
Big diffrences in the two models and it doesen't sound like bling is a big deal to you. If anything you sound like your more of a function over form type of rider and in that respect I would go for the FXD and as I mentioned kick their dick in the dirt on the price and get yourself some extras that will satisfy your needs.

If they won't budge on more than a G I would walk and find another dealer.

I would tell the dealer to keep it. Tell your dealer to find you the bike you ordered at a different HD dealer and to get it shipped down to your dealer so you can take home the bike you ordered. I honestly don't understand how they could accidentally order you the wrong bike.....W-T-F, sounds like they are telling you a fishing story. You evidentally ordered a Superglide Custom for a reason, don't let them talk you into something you don't want. Nothing against a standard superglide, butif that is not what you want, Don't get it!! Like "zerofivefour" said, if you want to make that superglide into a custom, you are going to spend a lot more money in the end...
