Transmission Drain Stripped
There is a wire loom that has to be moved.
Be careful about hogging it out with an oversized tapper.
Don't screw it up to a point that will be
beyond the helicoil's ability to repair it.
Thought you said the teflon taped plug was torqued in there snug.

Mud,
I gave it a close look last night and there is only one screw blocked by the frame (right side). I believe I can get to it with a long ball-end allen stock. I
'm going to stop in at Napa and get an oversize self-tapper tonight just to get me through the next week or two and as soon as I get a chance, I'll pull the pan and come see you. Better to have it off I think, shavings and all that.
Big Thanks Amigo,
Rick
The plug with teflon did torque (the first time); however, I filled the tranny with oil and drove it for about five minutes to flush the system.
After I drained it, the plug would not tighten, period. I even tried a brand new plug. It will screw in but won't tighten.

I replied to your PM, but thought I'd also post in the thread (for reference):
Ibought the plug at an Advance Auto Parts store, I think. Autozone, NAPA, etc. should have them. I just asked for an oversized plug for a stripped out drain, and they knew just what I needed. They had a rack full, so I assume that it's a pretty common occurrence.
The plug has an o-ring, but it's moreplastic than rubber. It's been sealing fine though. I don't believe that the one that I have has a magnet, but I've seen the ones that do.
We threaded the plug in and out a few times, then flushed through the drain a few times to be sure that we got the shavings out.
I was using someone else's torque wrench. No clicks like mine. When I first felt that free spin....Arrgghh!Visions ofbills from the Harley shop flashed through my mind. My father-in-law was helping me, though and he'd seen it before.
Good luck!
