Default Muffler selection confusion!!!

Ok….here’s my story….
I own an 07 FXDC and it’s completely stock. The one thing about it I would like to change is the loudness of the exhaust. The way it is with the stock exhaust is that I can’t even hear my own exhaust at certain speeds. For me, hearing the exhaust gives me feed back as to where I am in the RPM range and lets me know instantly if I should be shifting up or down. Now I don’t need to be gaining a lot of HP from what ever it is that I do to it, because I’m ok with the power it currently has. I’m just planning on taking local day trips around the Finger Lakes area of NY, riding to work and of course just plain old cruising around.
The other day I went to my local Harley dealer to talk to them about getting the bike louder. I told them I was thinking of the SE AC, PCIII and V&H Straight Shots Slipons with the quiet baffles. I’m not totally sure of the Strait Shots, if they might be to loud or not!!! I like my neighbors!!!! The dealer suggested the SE1 Slipons with the SE AC and the Harley download. Does the Harley download take care of the lean fuel mixture problem I keep hearing about? I did listen to the SE Slipons on an 08 FatBob while I wasand they didn’t sound that bad to me….of course I was in the service area where the floor and walls are concrete. Out side would be different. So, I guess what I’m trying figure out is, am I doing the best for the bike for what I use it for by going with the SE Slipons, SE AC and Harley download or should go for it all and get SE AC, PCIII and the V&H Slipons and have it Dyno tuned? The loudness of the exhaust doesn’t bother me within reason…I just don’t want to be setting off car alarms!!!!! Another thing the dealer told me, if I go with the PCIII, they would honor the warranty, but if I was to break down and had to have another Harley dealer work on it they might not honor it. Oh well, I have one more year on it and hopefully if something happens I’m close to my local dealer. I think I know the answer for what I should do and that’s go for the whole enchilada!!! Any comments, good or bad, would be appreciated!!!

the SE slip ons are slightly louder than stock. V&H is a different story, even with the quiet baffles. Just ask Topspin.

I'm in a noise quarantine area, and cant do much more than stock. Neighbor has the SE's and thats about all the hood will tolerate.
If all you do is the SE's, you might not have to do a download. If you do the AC, you will, or get a tuner.

I just bought the V&H Big Radius 2-1... should be installing them on the 4th of March... I got them coz I want a bit more noise but not TOO loud... After researching and joining HOGs on a couple of occasions, I thing the BR 2-1 is what I am looking for,,, The straight shots, 2-2, short shots and all other shots where too loud for my taste...

Basically anything after maket is going to be louder then stock. I have had the V&H slipons, the cycleshack Slipons and now I have the python staggereds with the BCT baffles. Now that is loud.

Sounds good to me.

I'd definately go for the V&H Slipons with quiet baffles over the SE ones, better sound and better looks.

I've got the V&H slip-ons with quiet baffles on my otherwise stock 07 FXDC and would recommend them definately.

I did run the V&H with the standard open baffles for a few months but they were way too loud, the quiet bafflesmake it a lot quieter at idle but give a nicer sound when opening the throttle.

I bought the Supertrapp tunable-disc slip-ons. I wanted slip-ons anyway, because I didn't want to mess with the stock header pipes and their oxygen sensors.

I also like them because they resemble the factory look, which I happen to like. They are about five inches shorter than the stock mufflers, which I also like - the stock ones were too long, visually. They also offer a choice of end caps, although I opted for the stock look.

The best thing about them is, they are tunable. You change the number of discs to make them louder or quieter. You can also take out some or all of the fiberglass packing (sort of like the old Thrush glass-packs that were all the rage at my high school in the '70s). So far, I have not messed with the packing, and I'm happy with them.

As far as the sound... they don't have as loud of a "bark" as straight pipes, which is fine - I respect my neighbors, too... The cool thing is, they have a very deep bass note that I can hear over the wind (through the wind?) at any speed. The thing sounds like a musclecar. I love it. Nobody else's Harley sounds like this, that I've heard.

Also, they sell an open end cap, which I have put on since I took these pics. It's not much different at idle, but it's a lot louder when I whack it open...
