Default forward controls or highway pegs?

Hi ,
I am new to the forum, and have been riding an 883 for 4 years. Am waiting on delivery of my new 2008 FXD ( can't wait). Am wanting to get dsome additons to it and can't decide whether to get forward controls or highway pegs. After the 883 , I definitely want something to stretch the legs ( am not tall but still- for those long rides). Any feedback would be appreciated.

There was no decision for me after I rode away from the dealership after purchasing..........forward controls were a MUST!!!!! But you need to make your own decision[8D]

I vote for leaving the mids, and adding the highway pegs.

The way I'm set up, I can gear up and down with my heel without taking my foot off of the highway peg. I rarely use the rear brake and I only need to go back on the mids for finding neutral.

Then you've retained the ability to still ride the bike aggressivly in the corners. Anyone that puts forwards on a Dyna is absolutely outto lunch if you ask me, unless you're freakishly tall or it's a custom bike.

Anyone that's done any road racing knows how crucial it is to be able to put weight on the pegs in tight cornering. You simply can't do that with forwards.

I say throw on highways, since they're less than 200, and decide from there - a lot cheaper then swapping to forwards and back to mids which a lot of guys are doing.

the choice of going forwards is yours to make depending on your riding style and conditions.
I spend most of my time stuck in gridlock on socal freeways during rush hour. Forwards would be useless to me under those conditions.
The choice wasnt that difficult for me. I went with pegs so I could stretch out on the weekends, and kept the mids to manuever through traffic. I love forwards, but they wont do the job for me

I had the highway pegs and found that is where it was more comfortable to ride most of the time so I ended up with foward controls but also left my mid pegs in place for another place to put my feet on the long trips. Yes ya can shift with your heel but I figured that if I'm always using the highway pegs I might as well put the controls up front too. I am 6 foot tall and ride a lot of 2-up so this was a big reason for the change in my case.

For me, I went with highway pegs thinking I too would like the two different positions. During a few long rides, I noticed I liked the forward position and was at that position more than mids. After a long ride was done, I took a quick spin around the block on a friend deuce. the forward controls on his bike at that point made me make my final decision. Install them. It was nice on the long rides moving my feet with the combination of mids and pegs, but when on the highway if I moved them back for a change, they were only there for like a min or less. Always like the forward better. But as many have stated, it's really up to you and what kind of riding you do. I feel if you are in the seat for many long rides it's a must.

Love the handling with mid controls and cruising position with hiway pegs - always good to have options on long rides to change leg positions - JMHO!

I prefer mids with highway pegs. I have gotten to where I shift & brake with my heel, so I really have no reason for forwards

I vote for riding it first.I think you'll find that the pegs on a Dyna are already farther forward than your Sportster. If you ride it for awhile and decide you don't need them you'll have saved yourself some cash.I also suggest riding a few bikes with forward controls and see if you really like it .After about 30 some odd years of riding on the street I've come to the conclusion that I don't like forward controls or highway pegs but that's just me.
