2003 Wide Glide electrical issues?

Hey guys, I've been in the sportster forums for quite some time now and I've made a deal with a local guy to buy his 2003 Wide Glide. It's in almost perfect condition, no dents or scratches, its got the gold key package and its only got 4900 miles. The only hiccup is that the battery is dead, way dead. It will start off a jump from my truck and run perfectly, but the nuetral light kinda comes and goes and the speedo jumps around a bit. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm hoping a new battery will fix the problem, but I don't want to get in over my head here! Any help would be appreciated!

check your battery leads especially the ground on both ends.

if it original battery its prob shot.have him buy a new batt.

I'd have it checked when my stator went bad the spedo would quit working when it was sitting still then would start working once i got going again the secondary windings went bad and with the rpms up it would put out enough for everything to work but sitting still everything would sort of go hay wire. and for dealer to change it out was around 400. i would take and have the thing checked out that way you know what you are getting into.
