I was looking for something better sounding than stock, how did the S&S sound?

I know Trotter is right in any case. I might consider such a kit, but I'd never put the damn thing on my bike without a good Dyno tune. That won't stop me from picking away at the AIM claim though. Can't help it - I'm stuck on it like a hound dog on a ham bone. I want to know how they support this claim. I think they've got meds for this, but my doc is out of town til Tuesday, LOL

Another thing I'm stuck on is crying myself to sleep every night cause he's on the opposite coast from me. I'm Jonesin' for one of his $199 dyno tunes! If there's not a line of HDF members out his door each day, I'd be shocked!

The stock ecm on 06 and up dynas, 07 up rest of harleys are a closed loop narrow band set up as many know. It also has some open loop areas in the mapping. I have no doubt the stock ECM can calibrate a Air filter swap and exhaust change no problem in the closed loop sections. It would set a code quickly if it couldn't. It is the open loop areas I would be curious to see. The ECM does calcs off of the closed loop info and applies it to the open loop mapping so some correction would occur in the open loop areas but there is nothing monitoring correctness. So knowing that I would want to run a sniffer while riding to check AFR's.
Trotter and others feel that a 14.7:1 ratio is too lean. If one wants out of that mixture in a lot of the map you would needa fuel management system or trick set upeven on a stock bike.

This is an old thread, but I installed the S&S Quick Setup kit and did not remap the ECU. After riding the whole season I can say it was well worth the money. It breaths better on top and sounds fantastic. I just changed the spark plugs and they were burning perfectly.
