I've been an active local chapter member since '97. Too many benifits to list and most of you have already touched on them. You get what you put into it. Check out the national H.O.G. website for the free Thursday entertainment in Milwakee for the 105 the celebration/25 year HOG anniversary. Aerosmith and Kid Rock were headlining that night ($25 ticket which is cheap), but Aerosmith had to cancel for some health realated reason, so Kid Rock is now a free concert as are several others during the day. $30 to camp for the whole weekend. It will be a cheap trip for me at the end of August.
+1 -> waste of $ for me - never used it, so let it expire after the first year. Road side assistance covered with my insurance for much less than HOG membership ($10 rider vs $45 membership). The magazines are useless drivel (when they didn't arrive all shredded up) and could care less about joining in with all the local baggers.
We keep our national membership in order to belong to our local chapter. GREAT group of people. We just signed our 500th member last month. We are growing by leaps and bounds. We get all sorts of discounts at our local sponsoring dealership. They ride all the time to a wide variety of places that we might not normally have found on our own. Most importantly, the chapter and the dealership sponsor MANY charitable rides that are geared primarily toward children and a few for the Vets as well. I can't think of a better way to invest my time and my money. (And I get to have a good time doing it!) In fact, I enjoy our local chapter so much that I'm currently running for the office of Treasurer.
As far as towing, I have both AAA and my insurance carrier also has a roadside assistance package, so I am covered out the wazzoo if I breakdown. Not concerned about that.
well, i had the freee basic i guess you'd call it...one time i had a flat...so i dialed the toll free number...at first it sounded ok but than they said they would only pay up to 100 bucks for towing....hmmm...no prob i thought....shouldn't be nearly that much as a dealer is pretty close to me......good deal i thought. when the very polite woman from hog phones me back on my cell she says the total bill would be like 175....so i'd still be out 75 clams.
i declined and phoned the dealer...they came and picked me up for 50 bucks.......i've since let my membership expire.
For $19.95 a year, I get unlimited towing to the nearest HD dealer and all roadside costs are covered in full! Plus I get a discount on my insurance which more than pays for the service. I have used the service and I had a great experiance. Truck came right out, was carefull with my bike and brought it safely to my dealer. Picked up the bike the next morning and was great again! Does my insurance come with towing? YES. But you can't have enough options in lifewhen riding!
