thanks Ron and Mud and everyone else who has offered ideas. I'll bleed the air out, recheck the oil level and cut the spacer a little to reduce the preload. I'll keep you posted on progress.

my stock 08 Super GLide does the same thing. i had the dealer check it and they installed the new washer fromHD. better but not fixed. i checked the 'fall away' per the maintenance manual and torqued the neck nut to specs - that got most of it but i can still get it to 'clunk'

Muddy, I went back and edited in the 2007 manual.

Like I said I wondered about the values given for the volumes,
but, I never go by the volume,
always measure distance from the top of the fork tube.

I want to know what other misprints are in the 06 manual?????????????
