Default Forward Control issues

OK, finally after trying to put the wrong piece for the shifter I realize that the chit was not going to fit and used the old harley gear shifter.

It went a lot smoother but where the placement of my foot to shift gears I have found myself lifting my feet of the pegs to shift.

I also torked off the gear shift bolt and need to exctract it. It does not seem like it will fall off but you I dont want to be riding in the dark and have the gear shifter fall off. then what. lol

The other thing is because it is one peg lower then the highway pegs I had when I start out I am further back in the seat so thats a little bit of an issue when cruising around town but maybe I just need to get used to it.

OK... just figured I would let you all know.

A suggestion for your consideration.......

I also had issues with the air cleaner, as well as, needing more extension. I added a set of Kuryakyn offset extensions and love them. They can be rotated to accommodate many size riders. Here are a couples pics:

Very cool..

BTW, do you have an easier way to do the primary side of the Forwards? I tried to PM you but it says you dont allow them. Anything that is easier then taking off all the stuff in that write up sounds good to me.

After reading all the instructions for the 07 is says nothing has to be removed except for the primary cover and housing (then refers to the manual for removel). I am wondering if that write up is for the 06 or something. HMMMMM

intersting. well, its worth a shot.

I didn't install mine (an indy did) but he didn't remone the primary, and put a chrome cap over the shifter shaft. And I don't think he had to cut the shaft.

Maybe someone will post more specific instructions.

You don'thave to remove the primary on the 2006 and up Dyna's. The 2006 kit comes with a longer rear shift lever that requires you to remove the primary to install it. That longer shift lever will give you more leverage for an easier shift, but it will also increase your throw. I preferthe shorter throw andit isn't any harder to shift then the original set up. I bought thethe cheaper 2005 kit because I planned on getting a custom shift rod. You have to use a longer shift rod with the 2005 kit other wise the front shift lever will hit the primary when you up shift. Also the 2005 kit comes with a bracket to bolt down the original shift lever, but it is pretty easy to remove, read below.

Removing the original shift shaft lever
Geta hacksaw blade and tape each end with duct tape, leaving about two inches exposed in the middle. Also put some duct tape on the primary and cylinder cooling fins. Tape a wrench onone end to get a better grip (on the end of the bladeso as you pull on the wrench you will be on the cutting stroke of the blade). Slip the blade between the primary and engine from the bottom of the bike with the wrench end on the bottom. Use your other hand to guide the top of the blade as you cut. I cut about three quarters thru then wrapped a rag around the shift lever and used vise grips on the other end of the shaft splines and sheared it off.

Coverforthe original shift shaft lever hole
I used achrome carriage bolt http://www.chromebolt.com/51618-x-13...olt-p-845.html, and put atwo inchpiece of rubber hose on the threads then added some shrink sleeving on the hose to get a nice snug press fit into the empty shaft hole.

I didn't remove shifter , I just push it inward and out of the way and filled with some black heat resistant silicone and covered hole with skull medallion. no problems what so ever.

OK, I did everything like you said but the curiosity to see how much work to do it by the book was. I took the primary cover off and took one bolt of the rear gear and then I was reading the dyna book and it said to loosen the back bolts to the tire to release the tension I said the hell with this.

I went to the hardware store and bought a hack saw and because the primary was off at that point I cut a good chunk off. Went to the stealer for a primary gasket and then got home and did all the things I had to do including filing the primary back up and that was it.

so to all you people looking to do forward by yourself (NO NEED TO REMOVE PRIMARY FOR FORWARD. Just let the shifter part fall back and your good to go. What would have made it better would be a hand held circular saw. that would cut it nice and close.

Anyway the part I have left is to put the shifter peg on and that thing will not go in there. How do you pry that apart a little bit so it will fit? I brook my small hammer on it already trying to bang it in.

Thanks Dirico
