Heel toe shifter busted? Spline?
This one I will need your help on.
This past weekend, my Heel-Toe-Shifter dumped forward! KLUNK!
Nada, nothing, zip, just KLUNK!
Luckily, Thank You God, I was stuck in 5th Gear so I was able to get home!
I removed the Levers, nothing wrong with the gears or teeth.
When I reinstalled them, I grabbed the HTS and it shifted allright, but then
I felt some "slop", I felt it slipping WITHIN the housing.
Does that make sense? Or am I cuckoo?
I need to take it to my Indy, but dang it, the ride over there, the expense of a tear down/break down has really got me down.
ANY ADVICE?
I have the Harley Manual, I am not afraid to tackle stuff like this, but
what do YOU THINK?
A lot of times the shift arm right at the transmission will strip. There is a company that makes an arm that can be replaced without taking the whole primary drive off, www.betterlever.com but it was expensive for the arm, $159.00. But it does save pulling the whole primary drive off

well that's the thing, I pretty much suspect it HAS TO BE taken down to Parade Rest for a proper inspection. It could be a simple fix or it can be yet another famous HD repair! Aaarrgghh! Just before Bike Week, sheesh man, I can NEVER get a break.

Navy, cheer up, It's only linkage. Your local dealer or indy will be able to patch that bike back up quickly. It would REALLY suck if you had a blown engine or busted trans. I would feel lucky to just have it be linkage.
Take the rear lever off and ride it with just the front lever. If the front lever is stripped, and the shaft is ok, go get another lever and locktite the bolt so it doesn't loosen up and strip it out again.,,
I'm thinking that the shaft that runs through the primary case broke. This happened to my 90 FLHTCU. It wasn't a hard job to repair/replace. I bought a new shaft along with the bushings that the shaft rides on. After I got the old shaft out I installed the new shaft to check for fit/slop. It was fine so I finished the job. Took about an hour on the floor of the garage. The hardest part of the job was cleaning up the empty beer cans ... but that's jut me. Good luck.

Could also be the bolt on the backside is loose. There are splines on that side also.
You should be able to move the shift peg back to the original location by hand. When doing this try to watch the what moves and what doesnt.
The rear shift arm that comes out of the tranny should be in the 12 o/clock posisition in a free state also the inside front shift arm should be almost the same.
I bet the front shaft is stripped or one of the bolts are loose judging by the picture.
