I am thinking of getting some leather chaps. My question is do you guys were them all the time or just when the weather is cool? It is still pretty chilly around here but the heat is getting closer and I can spend the money on something else if they are something that I wont wear during the summer. I have never had them before so I am kind of dumb when it comes to this stuff.
I live in South Dakota and have them butI mainly wear them when its cold out otherwiseI get to warm, but my buddy wears them on all long trips, so it just depends I guess.
To me, chaps are cold weather gear. Don't get caught wearing them with fingerless gloves or the fashion HDF fashion police will flame you. Seriously, some wear them because of the road quality where they ride. They are reasonably protective against pebbles and bugs. I get a kick out of the guys who drive to the swap meet or ice house because of ice and rain, but show up in full riding leathers and chaps. Kinda sets off the poser alarm.
I own them but have never worn them. I would never buy them again. My original intention was for cold weather wear but I put on LJ's and that's good enuff for me.
I wear them all the time unless I am just riding into town to get the mail or a few groceries. I also have a pair of kevlar jeans that I wear on long trips.
I wear them if its cold, going on a long haul, or possibility of rain.
Got caught in the rain/hail and was very happy I had them.
Word of advice, spend some cash on them and do your research. I had a pair i paid $50.00 for and they were crap. Now I have a pair of custom ones and wow what a difference.
