I wear them all the time including to work. Wearing business-casual clothes to work, it helps keep my clothes clean and in order. Dress slacks don't like to stay down by your ankle at 70mph on the highway.
Also, our average lows top out at 59 degrees at night in the middle of our summer (Wisconsin). When I ride at night and it's cool/damp, it is nice to be able to throw them on if the temps get to me. So while I may not be wearing them during the way, I usually end up throwing them on at night.
There's a bonus -- women dig my *** in chaps. YMMV.
