Default Lepera Bare Bones Pix

Finally got a chance to take a few quick pix of the scoot with the new Bare Bones on it. There have been a couple of threads pop up lately about seats and the Leperas have come up in discussion so here's a chance to see one example of it. The first couple are the bike with the seat. The last 2 will show a comparison of the Bare Bones vs. the Street Bob stock solo I was running.

Stell, it's surprisingly comfortable given the thickness. The foam is very dense so there is a lot in there even though it's a real thin seat. I'm not going to go fooling myself into thinking it's for touring or long rides but I feel like I can probably stay in the saddle at least as long as I did on the bob seat. I won't hesitate to ride over to the coast on it (about 2 hours) but we usually stop somewhere midway and top off with gas and have a drink anyway. It's not marketed as a touring seat and shouldn't be used as one. The cool thing I like about it is it makes me feel like I'm more "in" the bike than before and I don't find myself constantly pushing off on my footpegs to push myself back in the seat like I did/do with my other seats. I've thought about lowering my bike but was worried about doing that with my weight and the fact that I ride 2-up sometimes. It doesn't show in my pics because I'm not sitting on the bike, but it has a much nicer look to it in the rear end when I'm riding it because of my 240 lbs. I'm sure that's offset by the presense of my ugly mug but I can't do much about that . I'm now plenty low enough due to the seat and no longer feel the desire to lower the rear end.

I think comfort is going to be relative, though, from person to person just like exhaust sounds are IMO. I don't expect or want a real soft, cushy ride with no vibrations on a Harley. I like being able to feel the feedback from the bike as I ride it. Otherwise, I would have bought a Softail. My wife, on the other hand, does want and expect that and that is why I own that eyesore sofa seat they call the Tallboy. [8D]

Glad to see you got your seat. I am sure you are going to like it. LaPera makes a great seat.

2007fxdcthanks. that is some good input. I am looking for a good around town and 3 to 4 hour trip seat. looks like that might be the way to go. I am 6ft. and around 240lbs. myself. I can suck it up for a few hours for the sake of good looks!

I too have a sofa seat for when the girlfriend rides by the name of the Sundowner.(most comfortable seat I have ever owned by the way.)

The Sundowner and the Tallboy are basically identical except the Tallboy has a little more room to go back. I bought a Sundowner and traded it straight up for the Tallboy and didn't tell my wife and she, to this day, doesn't know the difference. They are comfortable, I'll give them that, but they just don't go with the look I want for my bike whatsoever.

Even when I get a little butt burn from riding, I can usually just stand up for a few seconds when I hit a red light and that cures it fora little while. Even when I'm cruising the backroads around here, there are so many little towns to go through, there's always a chance to stop and stand up for a few seconds so it's really no big deal for me. I have a bad lower back so I usually have to stop and stretch more for that than I do theole bum anyway.

that makes up my mind for sure. most the guysI ride with like to stop every hour or so anyway, so it is time for a barebones for me. anything has got to be better than that stock seat. it is way to soft for me.

I had one on my FXRP, after you get used to it it is surprisingly comfortable. I made several 2 to 3 grand trips on it with out a problem. I just packed my gear behing to lean on and it was great. I wouldnt worry about comfort too much unless your just wanting to ride on a pillow.

Bought mine on ebay for $149.95 plus shipping. Cost me about $163 total. Actually I bought a Lepera Silhouette which is very similar as you can see on Storm's bike above. Bought it from American Classic Motors. They emailed me to tell me the Silhouette was out of stock and offered to replace it with the Bare Bones which was okay by me. Opinions and experiences with ACM differ from great to awful but I tried them anyway and had okay luck with it as it turned out. I saw some Lepera seats advertised in American Iron Magazine. Didn't give the prices but said they were 10 to 20% off retail. I think it was partsamerica.com - you could try there.
