1,000 Mile Service Question . . .
Is the current crop of HDs made with synthetic oil from the factory (I'll probably find out when I pick it up, plus a very good friend of mine is the service manager where I am buying, so I'll get the straight scoop eventually, but wondering).
I spent summer '72 with my sister and family at the now-defunct SAC base KI Sawyer (near Marquette MI), got a quick tour of a B52 while there and have been impressed with them ever since. For something that big, there sure is a teeny tiny area for the crew! I have seen pics of the current "glass" cockpits, this was way way before that, thing had guages and dials and ***** and levers and switches just crammed everywhere you looked! And I saw the toidey! Cool experience, wish I could go in one now, even if just for a look. "Up In Minot", you ever get to take a ride in a BUFF?

I bought mine here http://www.eliteetc.com/mo1v20sin.html
It was about $54 including shipping 6 months ago, but I heard oil has gone up. Now almost $60. Could NOT find it locally.
Anyway, the cockpits are about the same now as they were on the one you saw. I work on H models. You most likely saw a D model, but maybe a G, not sure. There are still dials, gauges, *****, levers, switches, etc ALL over the place up there. It was VERY overwhelming for about the first two years working on them, but after that, you get to know what almost all of them do.
Manning has been very low since I've been up here. I haven't gotten an incentive ride yet, but would love to go up for one. Mainly, the guys that work out on the fligthline day in and day out, are the ones that get to go on them. Both of the jobs I've had so far are in a different squadron where we, for the most part, work in hangars, and do in-depth inspections on the jets. Even the guys on the flightline have been having to fight over who gets to take a ride on one of them to this air show, or fly over this sporting event, etc. Someday I'm sure I will get the chance, but not yet...
A few of the guys I work with have been stationed at KI, at some point or another. They worked on the BUFF's over there in the 90's, before the closures kicked in. I wish they hadn't because then I could get stationed back home, at Pease AFB, in NH.
xbox, that's NUTS man! Too rich for my blood. I stopped and got a Service Manual today for about $60 at my dealer. From this post, I'm figuring maybe about $150 total should do it, including that SM.
Hey Minot, appreciate your taking care of those amazing birds for us. I was in Chem Corps and got to work with folks in Minot and at the Wyo bombing ranges. Just about nothing more impressive in the inventory than a 52 doing nap-of-the-earth runs. First one I saw scared the crap outta me as it passed overhead. Looked like it was 10 feet off the deck!
