Default Removing a battery

Just got my first Harley. A Wide Glide 1996 and the battery is stuffed. How do I get the blasted battery cover off to remove the battery? I have got as far as removing the seat. What next?

Well, I would suggest getting a Maintenance manual for your model and following the instructions. I have had the battery out of my bike several times and the manual helped a bunch.

Default RE: Removing a battery

Look for a bolt on the lower battery trayin between the battery and the right rear shock. There may be one going upwards towards the seat and another going horizontal into the frame. I remove the one going up 1st then loosen the other. This holds the bottom battery tray to the frame. Make sure you disconnect the battery first. Once you loosen the horizontal bolt a little the top cover will be easier to remove. Then take the bolt out and the battery will drop right out so take your time and hold on to it. Becarefull n hope it works out for ya. MAke sure you check the battery cables everytime you do an oil change. I didn't and got stranded with no tools when mine came loose from vibration.
