Hey Gromit, I've been looking at that sundowner seat. I was just worried it would be way to wide on the passengers part and hang over the fender. DO you have any more pics of it, such as at angles or an overhead view?
Floating around here somewhere is a series of pics of my '03 FXDL with a Mustang Wide Vintage touring solo with passenger pillion. The passenger pad is nice and wide and offers good support. It comes off with one screw and leaves the fender looking nice and clean (I usually put the screw back in but you can leave it out and just have the threaded insert there). The rider seat also supports a backrest which is a must IMO on long rides. I added a set of detachable sideplates and sissy bar for the wife to have some sense of security while back there. When I want to ride 1-up and don't need anywhere to put anything, I take the pad and sissy bar off. Takes a total of 30 sec.
I just put a down payment on a 2007 Wideglide and would like to know if the rear pegs being mounted on the swing arm pose a problem with the passenger? The misses likes to ride with me from time to time and gota make sure that she is comfortable.
I use a suction cup pillion..........my wifes down about 300 miles on it....she says it not that bad...........................LOLIFE.............. .................................
My Sundowner isn't carpeted on the bottom, but it came with rubber pads. I stuck them to the bottom of the seat so when I go back to the single seat they are not stuck to the fender as the directions state.
You will have to buy the mounting nut to put into the fender, cost about $2 from the dealer. To put it on the fender drop a string down through the hole. Tie the nut onto it and then pull it up and your down.
Personally, I think if you have a wife or serious SO, you need to make the tradeoff between looks and comfort because she deserves to be comfortable, too. Plus, you will find her wanting to ride longer and more often if she's comfortable. For me, I am fortunate enough to have two bikes now. The Springer with the solo seat is for me and the Electra Glide with the Lazy Boy backseat for her when we ride together.
