I have not called HD to find out, but does anyone know for sure if doing your own 5000 mile service will void your warranty? I ordered the stuff I need to do it and will get the oil and stuff locally...I just enjoy doing things myself. The only thing I can't really do myself is check the engine idle...says that can only be done with Digital Technician that the HD dealer has.
By law, it can't as long as you do it in accordance with your owner's manual and/or the shop manual.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act says that if they require you to use their warranty service (or their parts or whatever) to maintain your warranty, it has to be provided free.
You do have to keep records (a log) and receipts should you need to prove compliance.
NO, lets put it this way i have not done any of my service work at the dealer and they warrantied my rocker box cover that leaked put on a new gasket no charge. I had over 5k on my bike and did my own 1,000 and 5,000 just have a good repoor with your service guys and keep your reciepts.
It's easy to take pics along the way with a digital camera - then put them together in a document - even add a little text if you want. How could they possibly argue?
