Default painting flames

Painting my tins. actually i'm re-painting scratches on stock color and want to add subtle flames. Pewter Pearl (grey/silver metallic) is stock and thought i'd go with grey/black flames.

any suggestions appreciated

tape off your flames, sand down your clear coat and shoot... then go though the process of wet sanding and clearing... it will look hack if this is your first job and your using your bikes tins... get on ebay and get an old tank off an old honda or something and practice with that... that is how i taught myself to paint... and i STILL would not shoot my bike yet

prep the whole thing first spray your base to cover the repair spot of the scratches let the base dryi say about an hour but no more then 24 hours because then u have to sand and spray base all over again after the base drys lay out the flames i would do some ghost flames get the base you used before and add a couples drop of white to lighten it up and shoot it a diffrent psi this will make it look ghosty then clear scuff one more time flow coat it and buff it you dont have to flow coat it if you dont flow coat put two coats of clear and then buff when it dries sorry for any spelling mistakes im on my phone lol

Good advice. You don't just add ghost flames...it's part of the whole process from a base coat up. You have an 08...let a pro do it.

Just take it to a painter. It takes years of experiance to do it "right". And not some cheap used car lot painter or someone that learned in their basement watching e-bay videos and buying Painting for dummies booksat walmart.

Ive been painting cars and such for 20 years.....
The practice advice is a good one.
Pick an old tank.
Sand and prime it .
Sand with 400 or so grit paper.
Pick your base color. (say black)
Get some 1/8 fine line tape (its usually blue)
And play around with the curves, dont get too fancy .
The best flames are simple to do they just look difficult.
Think in your head what you want and try to do it as close as you can.
Get pictures from the net. Look at any locals bikes for ideas.
And then try different ideas of colors you may want.
Hell if ya lived near i'd say drop by ..
It only takes a moment to screw up your parts so take your time on some old crap first.
I have some pics of a bike i almost bought a few months ago with flames i could send you.
Good luck
